The company seeks a tax manager to support its growing portfolio of partnership investments, including real estate, renewable energy, infrastructure, and venture capital, by managing complex partnership tax principles, planning, compliance, and related reporting. The position will review operating agreements, manage hypothetical book liquidation at value methods used for financial statements, ensure propriety of tax compliance for these investments, review partnership benefit schedules and related calculations, and report tax disclosures to investors and federal/state authorities. The role will closely partner with the Nelnet Tax Credit Services Controller, the Executive Director of Tax and Renewable Energy, Nelnet’s real estate and venture capital teams, other tax professionals, co-investors, and other finance professionals within Nelnet Tax Credit Services. Responsibilities

Prepare and/or review the after-tax benefit schedule for various partnership investments (renewable energy, real estate, infrastructure, etc.).

Oversee and review the preparation of hypothetical liquidation book value calculations for Nelnet and co-investor financial statements.

Manage tax compliance and planning for Nelnet’s partnership investments, including tax return review, correspondence with external tax preparers, and staff assignment for internal tax return preparation.

Partner with Nelnet’s tax department and renewable energy department to provide information and optimize workflows to meet co-investor and regulatory deadlines.

Prepare quarterly tax estimates of anticipated tax credits and flow-through income/loss for internal and external reporting.

Manage complex calculations related to federal credits, book capital accounts, inside and outside tax basis, and tax attribute carryforwards.

Participate in the due diligence phase of investments to manage risks, provide tax modeling and operating agreement review, maximize profitability, and establish mechanics for post-close management.

Review and maintain capital accounts, including year-end fundings and deficit restoration obligations.

Review and maintain book-to-tax differences related to Nelnet’s partnership investments.

Education

Bachelors Degree required in Accounting or Business Administration. CPA preferred. Experience

2+ years of tax compliance and return preparation experience in public accounting. Partnership taxation experience is preferred. Competencies – Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

Ability to work under stress and independently, with flexibility to manage multiple priorities.

Strong, confident communication; effective written and verbal communication across all levels of the organization.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range for this position is $100,000 - $150,000.
