Background

The Lupus Research Alliance (LRA), the world's largest non-governmental funder of lupus research, seeks a highly motivated and innovative Manager, Institutional Giving to build and manage a pipeline of institutional (foundation, nonprofit, grantmaker, etc.) accounts. Qualified candidates will have a proven track record in building a pipeline, and have a keen intuition navigating complex org charts, budgets, and calendars to inform proposals, and secure grant opportunities.

The successful candidate will possess an entrepreneurial spirit. They will be a compelling professional, championing Lupus Research Alliance in the grantmaking community - a fundraising craftsman with a unique gift for synthesizing and developing award-winning proposals.

The Manager, Institutional Giving, will play a key role in advancing LRA's mission by managing and expanding its foundation and institutional funding portfolio. This role includes grant research, grant prospecting, proposal development, grant reporting, and donor stewardship. The Manager will build a portfolio of institutional donors (foundations, nonprofits, etc. donors) at the $25,000+ level. The Manager will maintain their own pipeline, identify new funding opportunities, and ensure timely submission of high-quality proposals and reports to support the Corporate and Institutional Giving team.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Corporate & Institutional Giving, this position collaborates closely with colleagues across Advancement, Programs, and Finance.

Responsibilities

Lead the development, writing, and submission of compelling grant proposals and reports at the $25,000+ level to meet and grow established grant revenue targets. Establish and maintain personal contact and relationships with institutional contacts and program officers. Cultivate strong internal relationships across LRA to understand programmatic priorities and funding needs. Maintain comprehensive knowledge of current and historical grant relationships. Create and maintain proposal templates and language tailored to LRA initiatives. Collaborate with Programs and Finance teams to support annual grant budgeting. Monitor foundation revenue goals in consultation with Senior Manager, Corporate and Institutional Giving. Ensure compliance with all grant reporting requirements and deadlines. Provide writing and editing support for colleagues. Conduct ongoing research to identify and evaluate new institutional funding opportunities. Prepare detailed research profiles on prospective institutional donors. Maintain accurate and up-to-date profiles on donor platforms such as GuideStar and Charity Navigator. Coordinate with Advancement team to promote grant awards through media and social channels. Update a centralized virtual database (Instrument) for grant tracking, reporting, and analytics. Use CRM tools (Salesforce) to report on grant status and progress toward revenue goals. Represent LRA in meetings with funders, alongside other staff. Analyze grant denials and develop strategies for re-engagement and resubmission. Collaborate with Corporate Partnerships Officer for corporate foundation support. Support cross-functional development initiatives, including events, individual giving, and special projects. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimal Experience & Background

BA/BS degree or equivalent required. 3+ years of experience in account management, grant management, prospect research, and fundraising within a nonprofit organization - preferably one focused on medical research, healthcare, and/or public health. Requirements

Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals Excellent research, analysis, and reporting skills Must be hands-on, self-directed, detail-oriented, organized, and tenacious Ability to work independently, prioritizing and managing multiple projects with tight deadlines Experience with proposal writing and private/corporate institutional donors Team player who can build excellent working relationships both internally and externally Expertise with Salesforce and Instrumentl, or equivalent CRM and grant management software Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Apps, and general computer literacy Special Requirements
