The City of Friendswood is currently accepting applications for a full-time
Meter Technician , in the
Public Works Department . This position will read and maintain water meters, connect and disconnect water service, which ensures proper billing and customer satisfaction.
WORK PERFORMED:
Walks or drives truck over established route and takes readings of water meters
Completes work orders, which includes meter leaks, new connects, finals, re-reads, and customer communication
Inspects meters and connections for defects, damage, and unauthorized
Turns service off for non-payment of charges in vacant premises, or on for new
Troubleshoots and repairs AMI hardware for continued
Maintains meters by changing out meters, raising meters, installing, or replacing meter boxes, installing or replacing meter box lids, repairing minor gasket
Replacement of curbstops, meter tails, and service line
Indicates irregularities on forms for necessary action by servicing
Trains new personnel to read meters and maintain meters and associated AMI
Perform other duties within the area of responsibility and ability as
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma orE.D.
0-3 years of similar or related experience
Experience working for a City, County or State is preferred
Experience reading and maintain water meters preferred
Class C Texas Driver's License
Class "C" Water Distribution License or the ability to obtain within 6 months
KNOWLEDGE or SKILL PROFICIENCIES:
Ability to interact with the public regarding service orders, complaints, and
Ability to make decisions efficiently with minimal
Ability to communicate in a professional and mature
Flexibility to be on call after normal work hours on a rotational
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Position requires heavy lifting (e.g., greater than 50 pounds) and extended period of sitting, walking, and standing.
Position incumbent is constantly exposed to dirt, dust, noise, heat, cold and dampness and occasionally exposed to odors, fumes, and bad lighting.
Job may require above-average agility and
Job may also require physical exertion for long periods of Mostly of workday is spent outside.
Incumbent is exposed to all types of weather
This position may require 24 hour availability in emergency situations.
