OVERVIEW The Associate Director, External Quality & Food Safety provides the QFS focus and leadership for Post Consumer Brands (PCB) external supply chain network, including ingredients and ingredient suppliers, packaging materials and packaging suppliers, co-manufacturers and both internal and third-party distribution. The incumbent develops and executes strategic plans for external supply consistent with PCB’s strategy and vision. The Associate Director, External QFS is accountable for deployment of best practices and assurance of consistency for supplier audits, supplier selection, supplier approval, monitoring practices, metrics and issue prevention. When issues do occur, the incumbent leads root cause and corrective action with the supplier or distribution center. This position is a key contact point for major R&D initiatives in the area of both new product development and maintenance of existing products. This position supports, implements, and maintains food safety, food safety culture, and quality practices as required through SQF. Location This position offers hybrid flexibility from our corporate campus in Lakeville, MN. Responsibilities and Accountabilities Responsible for the initial review and ongoing oversight including ingredient risk assessment, supply chain controls and audits for all ingredients and ingredient suppliers. Continually develop and enhance the supplier audit program with an emphasis on sharing industry best practices in food safety with our supply chain. Lead Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) program development and compliance related to both Risk Based Preventive Controls for Human Foods rule pertaining to ingredient risk assessment and supply chain controls and the Foreign Supplier Verification Programs (FSVP). Responsible for the quality, food safety and regulatory oversight of all co-manufacturers. This includes initial audit and approval, assurance that food safety plans are in place and effectively implemented, ingredient risk assessments and supply chain controls; always providing clear documentation as to expectations and continuous improvement expectations. Provide support to the PCB Logistics organization, ensuring both company-managed and 3PL distribution centers meet all regulatory and food safety requirements. Conduct at least annual audits to assure compliance and work collaboratively in the implementation and ongoing efforts for SQF certification. Responsible for ensuring that suppliers continue to develop and implement best practices that emphasize defect prevention, reduction in variation and waste and provide for continuous improvements; continuously meeting quality standards required to minimize quality costs and maximizing customer satisfaction. Work with R&D, Regulatory, Legal and Sourcing to define process parameters and criteria to ensure supplier process capability is effective and compliant with all laws/regulations required in meeting PCB product and process requirements. Support Sourcing and R&D with the supplier approval process by developing and executing an efficient program and process to assess manufacturing/technology capabilities and compliance risks. Manage a system for root cause analysis and corrective actions process of supplier quality or food safety issues. Continually monitor emerging food safety issues and regulatory trends as it relates to external supply that may impact PCB. Act as a leader in both the PHI and peer industry community for specific scientific or regulatory developments related to the external supply chain. Enhance PCB’s knowledge and stature through benchmarking, sharing of knowledge, identifying opportunities for greater application of findings and supporting industry and regulatory initiatives. Lead, guide, coach/mentor and develop a staff of six QFS personnel; ensuring high performance, on-going development and career planning are in place. Qualifications
Education BS in Food Science, Engineering or related science. Master’s Degree preferred. Knowledge of food science, engineering, business administration and manufacturing principles required. Extensive knowledge of quality and food safety systems related to FSMA, food hygiene, HACCP, sanitation and cGMPs. Experience with State and Federal regulatory agencies (FDA, USDA) required. Experience Minimum of 10-15 years’ experience in the food industry including quality assurance, food production, food safety, supervision of professional staff and business planning. Quality and Food Safety performance is essential to the long-term viability and success of Post Consumer Brands. The pay range for this position is $99,119 - $154,626 per year.
