Job Summary
Provides assistive care to patients. Facilitates the efficient delivery of patient care, supports the professional role of the licensed staff, and provides support and assistance as directed by licensed staff in rendering basic healthcare to the patient. Assists with clerical and administrative functions as a multi-skilled auxiliary worker.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Completion of a certified Medical Assistant/Licensed Vocational Nurse program or equivalency required; Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card or obtain one within one month of hire; demonstrated phlebotomy skills and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required. Must have knowledge of medical terminology and basic non-invasive diagnostic equipment (blood pressure cuff, stethoscope and ophthalmoscope and otoscope) as well as a general understanding of basic physical examination. Must have basic desktop computer skills and have a general knowledge of Computers, printer, telephone, adding machine, file cabinets, literature sorters, mailing supplies and internet, copy machine, fax machine, scanner and shredders. Excellent customer/patient satisfaction skills including the ability to display courtesy and consideration to patients, guests, physicians and staff. Required Qualifications
Education:
Any combination of education, training, experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Medical Assistant Certificate or LVN licensing from an accredited course of study is required.
Experience:
2 - 3 years prior experience in a medical office environment. Knowledge of medical terminology and various types of medical testing equipment or devices. Ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff. Bilingual helpful but not required.
Software:
Use Electronic Medical Record and Practice Management Software programs, as well as Microsoft office and other applicable software packages. Preferred Qualifications
Essential Job Duties
Key Responsibilities
Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to clinic policies and procedures such as but not limited to obtaining and recording temperatures, pulse rate, blood height and weight and responses to standardized medical history questions, including but not limited to allergies and current medications. Vision screening and Audiometric screening. Key Responsibilities
Reports all observed patient concerns and changes in condition to a licensed staff member. Key Responsibilities
Performs Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) Waved Lab tests such as urine dip stick, Hgb, Hct, finger stick, glucose, hemoccult, Strep test, HCG, drug test, HIV oral quick test and reports results to the appropriate personnel. May perform patient phlebotomies in accordance with clinic policies and procedures and physician orders. Key Responsibilities
Performs specialty skills such as suture removal, wound care, ear lavages, vision screening, audiometric screening straight catheterization and injections (IM, subcutaneous and intradermal). Key Responsibilities
Acts as a chaperone for health care providers during patient examination as requested and assists with procedures. Assist students and also serve as a Spanish translator when needed and if fluent in Spanish Key Responsibilities
Monitors and cleans assigned patient examination rooms, unit areas and unit equipment reporting outdated supplies, stock levels and restock set levels of items and necessary equipment repairs. Key Responsibilities
Answers telephones, forwards telephone messages and under the direction of licensed staff schedules appointments, procedures and diagnostic tests. Key Responsibilities
Assists in routine clerical functions such as printing bar codes and prepare the document for scanning into the patient's electronic medical records. Knowledge of documentation in the Electronic Medical Records. Obtaining medical records from other providers, laboratories and imaging centers. Entering charges for billing purposes. Performs referrals, special authorization needed for any DME and/or medication not covered by insurance Key Responsibilities
Attends and completes mandatory in-services including but not limited to infection control, safety, HIPAA, Harassment in the workplace, CPR, equipment usage and procedures according to department policies and procedures. Key Responsibilities
May apply leads and monitors for diagnostic procedures such as EKG and UA Machine, Autoclave, Hemocue machine, oxygen tank, Audiometer, Snellen Chart ultrasound scan under the direct supervision of licensed personnel. Have VFC/CHDP Knowledge and Insurance knowledge. Key Responsibilities
