Title: CUSTODIAN - HEAD / GROUNDS File 603
Reports to: Assigned Administrator/Supervisor
Job Objective: Supervises and participates in the delivery of comprehensive custodial and grounds maintenance services, ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and aesthetic upkeep of all district property, both indoors and outdoors. This role requires a strong focus on landscaping, mowing, snow removal, and general grounds management in addition to traditional custodial duties.
Minimum High school diploma or GED. Job skills verified by training and/or work experience in both Qualifications: custodial and groundskeeping roles.
-Demonstrated experience in operating groundskeeping equipment, including commercial mowers, tractors, and snowplows. -Ability to manage compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations. -Available to work a non-traditional schedule and irregular hours, especially during inclement weather for snow and ice removal. -Displays flexibility, reliability, self-discipline and a willingness to take on challenging tasks. -Effective communication, problem-solving and time management skills. -Embodies high ethical standards/integrity. Accepts responsibility for personal decisions/conduct. -Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment. -Valid driver's license. Qualified to be covered by the district insurance carrier. A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is advantageous. -Physical Demands: Duties require lifting/moving materials weighing up to fifty pounds, operating power equipment, using hand tools and working from ladders, scaffolds or mechanical lifts. This role requires significant physical stamina for outdoor work in various weather conditions.
Essential Functions:
1a. Groundskeeping and Outdoor Maintenance: - Directs and participates in all aspects of district groundskeeping, including regular lawn mowing, trimming, edging, and weeding. -Manages and performs landscaping duties, such as planting, pruning shrubs and trees, and maintaining flower beds. -Oversees and conducts snow and ice removal operations, including operating snowplows and applying salt/de-icing agents to parking lots, sidewalks, and entrances to ensure safety for students, staff, and visitors. -Maintains athletic performance and practice fields, outdoor classroom, playgrounds, including line-painting, raking, and general upkeep. -Manages irrigation systems and outdoor water usage. -Ensures the proper disposal of yard waste and debris. -Conducts regular inspections of grounds, reporting and addressing any hazards or maintenance needs.
1b. Custodial Services and Building Maintenance: -Supervises and actively participates in the daily cleaning and sanitation of all school buildings, including classrooms, offices, restrooms, and common areas. -Performs technical and manual tasks to maintain the appearance and cleanliness of district property, such as dry mopping/washing floors, vacuuming carpets, stripping/waxing floors, and cleaning furniture and windows. -Conducts minor repairs and general maintenance tasks when qualified including but not limited to plumbing, electrical, preventative maintenance, and other repairs, -Assists in the maintenance of building systems and reports substandard conditions (e.g., electrical, plumbing, HVAC). -Maintains a sufficient inventory of essential custodial and groundskeeping supplies. -Assists with special event preparation and clean-up activities as directed.

Fosters goodwill to enhance the district's public image. -Cultivates community relationships that promote strong public support for the district. -Enforces drug-free workplace rules, board policies and administrative guidelines/procedures. -Functions as part of a cohesive team.
