Department of Human Development and Family Studies

( HDFS ) is one of eight academic programs in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Colorado State University. Recognized as a top program in the United States, HDFS is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and outreach for examining human development across the lifespan in the context of families, schools, communities, and culture. HDFS houses approximately 90 employees, including 37 faculty and 49 administrative professionals and support staff, with more than 900 students in its undergraduate degree programs. The department offers Bachelor of Science degrees in HDFS with multiple concentrations, and Early Childhood Education leading to Colorado Early Childhood Education licensure in K-3. The Master of Science Degree in HDFS offers a general track and two specializations: Marriage and Family Therapy (accredited by COAMFTE) and Prevention Science. The Doctoral Program in Applied Developmental Science provides state-of-the-art training in basic and applied research, and the department has over 60 graduate students across degree programs and the online Master of Prevention Science Practice. The department, supported by the largest extramural funding portfolio in the college, conducts research across topics such as child and adolescent development; risk, resilience, and developmental psychopathology; treatment, intervention and prevention science; emotion regulation and relational process; and adult development and aging. Human Development and Family Studies

( HDFS ). This is a 12-month, full-time faculty position. Applicants should have a proven record of academic leadership, innovative research, effective teaching and mentorship, meaningful service, and outstanding interpersonal communication and organizational skills. Successful candidates will demonstrate high ethical standards and operate in a transparent and collegial way, with a strong commitment to working collectively to elevate HDFS to national and international recognition. Areas of Responsibility

Leadership within the Department: develop a shared vision and strategic plan; transparent communication and advocacy; build capacity to advance education, research, and outreach; promote faculty, staff, and student retention, engagement, and satisfaction; encourage professional development. Research and Scholarship: cultivate an exceptional research climate; promote external funding opportunities; stay actively involved in research, scholarly activities, and professional societies. Fiscal Management: steward resources and budget; develop strategic approaches for resource growth, including entrepreneurial activities. Personnel Management: set clear job duties and performance metrics; uphold high standards in teaching, research, and outreach; mentor faculty and staff; foster a positive work environment and conflict resolution. Facility Oversight and Space Improvement: ensure facilities meet needs of faculty, staff, and students. Commitment to Excellence: align with the Land-Grant Mission and student success initiatives. Teaching: reinforce undergraduate and graduate student success through a rigorous curriculum and engaging instruction; occasionally teach courses and provide career guidance. Position Supervises

Earned Doctorate in HDFS or related field (e.g., Psychology, public health). Academic credentials commensurate with a faculty appointment at the rank of Professor with tenure (mid-career Associate Professor or higher). Demonstrated record of administrative, personnel management, and leadership excellence (strategic planning, resource allocation, accountability for outcomes). Demonstrated record of a funded research program with national/international recognition. Commitment to promoting research excellence through mentorship and grant development opportunities. Proven teaching and mentoring excellence and leadership in curricular development. Preferred Job Qualifications Experience with assessment and accreditation/reaccreditation processes. Experience maximizing faculty, staff, and student professional growth. Experience leading tenure and promotion processes and annual reviews. Fundraising and donor relations experience. Ability to foster open, collaborative relationships with internal and external partners. Familiarity with community outreach in relation to a land-grant institution.
