As part of the Maryland State Department of Education, the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) provides services to assist students with disabilities prepare for the work world, vocational rehabilitation services to assist adults with significant disabilities who are seeking to enter or reenter the workforce, and the adjudication of Social Security disability claims for the citizens of Maryland.

POSITION DUTIES
The Disability Claims Examiner Supervisor provides leadership and direction to a unit of Disability Claims Examiners, Disability Claims Technical Specialists and Office Secretaries who develop and adjudicate Social Security and Supplemental Security Income electronic disability claims ensuring that these claims are processed in an accurate, timely, and cost-effective manner.
Position Duties Include:
Plans, organizes, directs and controls all aspects of the work assigned to the section. Reviews and assesses electronic and/or paper claims at all levels of adjudication for quality, timeliness, and cost effectiveness in accordance with Social Security Administration regulations, policies, and procedures. Implements Division policy, program directives and administrative instructions and maintains systems to monitor and ensure compliance. Monitors and assesses staff performance and provides assistance and direction in meeting performance standards. Performs supervisory functions related to attendance control and performance evaluations. Responds to inquiries regarding the eligibility of benefits for claimants. Implement and maintain working relationships with Federal, State and local organizations and agencies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Possession of a Bachelor's degree.
Experience:
Four years of professional work experience in the adjudication or processing of Social Security disability claims. Two years of this experience must have been as a Disability Claims Technical Examiner.
Note:
Two years of experience as a Vocational Rehabilitation Technical Specialist may substitute for two years of the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of a Master's Degree and/or coursework in Management, Supervision or Administration is preferred.
