JOB SUMMARY

The Purchasing Agent is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring materials, tools, equipment, and services necessary to support electrical construction projects. This role ensures that all purchases are cost-effective, delivered on time, and meet company and project specifications. The Purchasing Agent works closely with project managers, estimators, and field leadership to forecast material needs, develop vendor relationships, and maintain accurate inventory and procurement records.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Procurement Management:

Source, evaluate, and purchase electrical materials, tools, equipment, and subcontracted services.

Vendor Relations:

Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors. Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules to achieve cost savings.

Bid & Quote Coordination:

Solicit bids/quotes from vendors, evaluate proposals, and recommend suppliers based on price, quality, and reliability.

Inventory Oversight:

Monitor inventory levels, track deliveries, and coordinate with warehouse staff to ensure adequate material availability.

Cost Control:

Maintain pricing databases and analyze trends to ensure competitive costs. Assist project teams in maintaining budgets through effective purchasing.

Compliance:

Ensure all purchased materials and equipment comply with company standards, electrical codes, and project requirements.

Documentation:

Maintain accurate purchase orders, contracts, and records in the company’s procurement system.

Cross-Department Collaboration:

Work with project managers, estimators, and field operations to forecast material needs and prevent shortages or delays.

Process Improvement:

Develop and implement best practices for procurement processes to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

Problem Resolution:

Address and resolve issues with suppliers regarding late deliveries, defective products, or pricing discrepancies.

Other Duties:

Perform other procurement or administrative responsibilities as assigned by leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum 7–10 years of purchasing experience in the construction or electrical contracting industry.

Strong knowledge of electrical materials, systems, and installation methods.

Experience negotiating supplier contracts and managing vendor relationships.

Proficiency with procurement systems, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), and construction management software.

Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.

Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.

Valid Florida driver’s license with clean driving record.

EDUCATION

High school diploma required; Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or Construction Management .

Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Purchasing Professional, Certified Supply Chain Professional) a plus.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Extended hours may be required to meet project deadlines.

Occasional travel to vendor locations, project sites, or industry events.

Regular attendance is an essential function.

PHYSICAL OR MENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Ability to sit at a desk for extended periods (8+ hours).

Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. on occasion when handling small equipment or materials.

Must be comfortable working in both office and warehouse environments.
