Duties Description Valid NYS Drivers License required.Supervises lower -level custodial personnel in the cleaning and care of an assigned area by assigning specific task, providing instructions, and making sure the work is completed according to custodial programs specifications.Supervise a group of subordinate cleaners and janitors, (10-30)Assign work, observes work performance, provides oral and written instructions to staffBuilding inspections for compliance with cleaning programs and standards.Investigation of complaints and take corrective action to resolve problems.Prepares written reports, employee evaluations, counseling memos.Evaluates work performance, recommends retention or termination of probationary employees.Upholds departmental policies.Good communication skills both verbal and written.Motivating employeesTraining staff and working along with staff.
Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.NON-COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (NY HELPS):Two years of satisfactory full-time experience in the custodial care or cleaning of buildings, offices, or institutional residences of which one year of the experience must have been at a supervisory level.COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (NON-NY HELPS):Candidates must have a reachable score on the Supervising Janitor Exam List ORBe a current NYS employee and have a current permanent appointment with 1 year of service as a Supervising Janitor, or in a title eligible to transfer to Supervising Janitor ORBe a former NYS employee eligible for reinstatement to the title of Supervising Janitor May be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment.Any applications received that do not meet the above requirements as described will be deemed unqualified.
