Job Summary:

Performs a wide range of clinical duties while assisting the provider in giving quality care in a medical office setting. Primary responsibilities include: gathering of patient data, chart scribing, preparation& review. Will demonstrate the knowledge required to provide age appropriate care for the patients served in the practice. Must complete required computer training & develop a strong working knowledge of the patient chart in the EHR to be aware of health insurance guidelines for pre-authorizations, referral processes, & have ability to schedule diagnostics/specialist visits as ordered by the provider. Requires experience in a medical care setting interacting with patients & their families, detail oriented, having the ability to stay focused, caring, responsible, & organized.

Duties/Responsibilities: Uses only approved abbreviations. Understands patient safety goals & actions taken. Uses 2 patient identifiers before giving treatments, demonstrates process. Understands read back of verbal orders/critical lab values & can state process. Understands procedure to clarify physician orders. Uses standing orders when indicated. Accurately calls report to MD as warranted by condition; reports to other providers as needed. Reports sentinel events or adverse drug reactions or incidents as warranted. Uses final verification before invasive procedures & can verbalize correct process & documents in EHR. Reassesses patient in response to changes in condition after intervention as needed & documents in EHR. Assists front office if needed to verify insurance information & demographics in a manner that upholds principles of privacy. Documents records in a timely, accurate, & private manner according to protocol with the EHR. Looks up patient charts & creates charts. Schedules patient's appointments & procedures. Assists patients into exam rooms in a prompt, efficient, & friendly manner. Takes vital signs & prepares patient for exam in an accurate & appropriate manner. Transports patients safely & efficiently. Assists as needed with patient care as requested including set-up & tear down of procedures. Prepares & mails appropriate preparation instructions to patients. Inquires & documents in patient's health record as appropriate regarding x-rays & test results for patient appointments. Performs EKG testing as ordered & enters charges, submits order to health records. Performs venipuncture safely & accurately, submits orders appropriately. Performs subcutaneous & intramuscular injections, enters charges, & documents. Assists the patient with maintaining an updated medication record. Call prescriptions into pharmacies accurately & timely. Assists in the education regarding medications & their side effects. Demonstrates knowledge of isolation procedures. Cleans & maintains equipment according to policy. Transports instruments & equipment in a safe manner. Prepares specimens for lab in a safe & timely manner. Checks & puts away sterilized instruments accurately. Cleans exam rooms in a safe & efficient manner. Determines call direction in an accurate, efficient, & friendly manner. Takes accurate messages & delivers in a timely manner. Orchestrates effective communication over multiple phone lines for both incoming & outgoing calls. Confirms all upcoming appointments by phone. Maintains appropriate statistics for patient care. Schedules, acknowledges, & edits all physician schedules on computer system. Assists front office as needed, retrieves/ handles voicemail messages as appropriate in a timely manner & documents all encounters with patient in health record. Sorts mail and delivers to physician areas. Organizes & retrieves referral letters & information pertinent to the patient's care including information from the EHR & scans. Assists in complying with pre-certification needs for testing & therapies. Stocks rooms with appropriate supplies as requested. Maintain security systems as appropriate. Takes responsibility for ordering & maintaining supplies & equipment as requested. Carries out provider orders, including authorization of refills according to established protocols. Acts as liaison between provider & patient, communicating essential instructions given by provider & implementing patient education. Gathers the patient's medical data, then presents it to the provider in the patient's presence. Assists the provider by scribing the physical exam, provider's orders, initiates the visit plan & provides appropriate patient education about illness/medical condition. Assists provider with evaluation of clinical processes for quality & efficiency. Evaluates patient's condition by accurately performing physical & psychosocial assessments as recommended. Monitors office compliance with OSHA & lab proficiency testing for CLIA. May perform insurance pre-authorizations. Required Skills/Abilities:

Strong customer service skills; effectively communicates both verbal & written. Exceptional organizational skills Able to perform basic medical assisting skills, including EKGs & venipuncture Able to use computer & office equipment. Education and Experience:

Additional training beyond high school Must be a Certified Medical Assistant Must complete Family Team Care training Minimum of 1 year relevant work experience preferred Physical Requirements:

Frequent walking, sitting, standing, reaching, talking, & use of hands Occasionally may need to lift up to 25 lbs
