Purpose: The primary responsibility of the Benefits Specialist is to manage all functions associated with the administration of the District's health benefits program district-wide to include, but not limited to: health insurance, workers' compensation insurance, prescription, dental, vision, flexible spending account plans, open enrollment, and employee assistance program (EAP). The Benefits Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance with Federal and State laws, including, but not limited to Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and New Jersey Family Leave Act (NJFLA).

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree (preferred) Three (3) years of experience in Health Care Benefits and Insurance Management Demonstrate excellent organizational skills Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with staff and administration Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary Demonstrate the ability to use electronic equipment for word processing, data management information retrieval, visual and audio presentations, and telecommunications Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative

Reports To:

Director of Human Resources

Responsibilities:

Manages the employee benefits (health, prescription, dental, vision and EAP) program for all employees. Manages COBRA, FLMA, NJFLI, and Medicare. Prepares and verifies medical and other leaves of absences for monthly Board of Education meetings. Serves on the Negotiating Committee (when required) and prepares Benefits Census, scatter grams, etc. Conducts retirement consultations. Conducts Pension enrollment and/or transfers. Serves as liaison between the District and the Office of Unemployment, various insurance carriers, and insurance brokers. Serves as liaison between the District and the Workers' Compensation/Employee Health vendor to assess and resolve claims. Manages the annual open healthcare enrollment program. Conducts Unemployment Reviews. Possesses excellent computer/ technology skills including but not limited to G-Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and Zoom. Ensures that the district and its personnel policies are in full compliance with appropriate local, state, and federal laws, rules and regulations. Uses excellent written and oral English skills when communicating with students, parents, and colleagues. Completes in a timely fashion all records and reports as required by law and regulation or requested by the Director of Human Resources. Answer correspondence promptly. Continues to grow professionally through collaboration with colleagues and professional growth experiences. Performs any duties that are assigned by the Director of Human Resources.

Evaluation: The Benefits Specialist shall be evaluated by the Director of Human Resources.

Term of Employment: Twelve (12) Month, Non-Affiliated Position

Salary Range:

$40,000.00 to $60,000.00
