Responsibilities

As an Independent Living Donor Advocate, you will operate independently from the Transplant Center while collaborating with the multidisciplinary team. Responsibilities include:

Serving as an impartial advocate for potential living kidney and liver donors, separate from the recipient's care team.

Supporting donor rights throughout all phases of care including pre-donation, donation, and post-donation.

Assessing and documenting donor comprehension of informed consent, evaluation, surgical procedures, and follow-up requirements.

Educating donors on grievance procedures and assisting with resolution.

Ensuring compliance with medical and legal standards.

Acting as a resource for staff within the Section of Social Work and Department of Nursing.

** This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship with the exception of the TN visa classification; Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, you must have a Master in Social Work (MSW) degree, and clinical level licensure.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in living organ donation, transplantation, medical ethics, informed consent, and donor decision-making.

Candidates with diverse perspectives are strongly encouraged to apply.

Additional Qualifications

Advanced knowledge of mental illness, personality, adjustment to medical diagnoses and chronic disease.

Strong communication skills, both in verbal and written form, are needed to interact with patients, patient's family members, multidisciplinary team, community agencies, and other resources.

Psychosocial diagnostic skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and in written form.

Licensure

LICSW licensure to practice independently at the clinical level is required.
