Principal Systems Engineer BMD SME

Waypoint's client is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer BMD SME (Ballistic Missile Defense Subject Matter Expert) to provide expertise in shaping the future of the Missile Defense System (MDS). This role will facilitate modeling, simulation, and analysis (M&S) of future concepts to address warfighter needs, assess threats, and identify opportunities for system evolution at the architecture level. Responsibilities: Facilitate the definition and evaluation of future missile defense concepts for modeling, simulation, and analysis. Serve as a subject matter expert in concept definition, architecture analysis, and reviewing analytical results prior to delivery. Assess MDS threats, capability gaps, challenges, and needs to develop potential mitigations and system evolutions. Support M&S efforts on DoD High Performance Computing (HPC) environments, including the execution of analysis plans. Develop analysis plans, run simulations, analyze results, prepare reports, and review analytical products. Contribute to multidisciplinary analysis and optimization efforts across MDS domains. Required: Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 12+ years of experience in missile defense or other large, complex DoD programs/projects. Active DoD Secret clearance, with ability to obtain TS/SCI. Extensive experience in modeling, assessment and evaluation of future missile defense architectures. Deep understanding of the current MDS architecture and emerging future concepts. Desired: Active TS/SCI clearance. Experience defining and applying advanced concepts and algorithms for MDS M&S. Experience analyzing MDS architectures involving kinetic and directed energy weapons. Knowledge of MATLAB and/or Python, with experience in HPC or MBSE environments. Experience supporting systems engineering architecture design activities. Proven ability to perform technology assessments and evaluate potential utility for MDS applications. Specialized expertise in threat characterization, trajectories, RF sensing/signatures, and/or EO/IR sensing/signatures. Experience with Cyber gaps, mitigations, and future Cyber Architecture development. Demonstrated success coauthoring reports and contributing to MDS studies, including responses to Congress.
