Job Description of the School Social Worker

Reports to: Director of Student Services
Supervises: None
Purpose: To create nurturing relationships with students that enhance students' academic achievement and personal success. Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, promote overall academic success by providing services that strengthen home, school, and community partnerships and alleviate barriers to learning.

Training and Experience: NC School Social Worker License or Ability to Obtain a License
Salary: State Salary Schedule plus local supplement

Purpose: To create nurturing relationships with students that enhance students' academic achievement and personal success. Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, promote overall academic success by providing services that strengthen home, school, and community partnerships and alleviate barriers to learning.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assess and identify students with social, emotional, behavioral, or familial challenges affecting academic performance.
- Conduct home visits and provide crisis intervention when necessary.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, counselors, and community agencies to develop individualized intervention plans.
- Assist with truancy prevention and intervention by working with students and families to improve attendance.
- Participate in the development of IEPs, 504 plans, and MTSS/PBIS interventions.
- Advocate for students and families regarding access to resources (e.g., food, clothing, housing, mental health services).
- Maintain accurate case files and documentation in accordance with FERPA and district policy.
- Serve as a liaison between the school, home, and community resources.
- Assist in crisis planning, response, and recovery efforts.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Knowledge of laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the social work profession
- Ability to collaborate with administrators, teachers, and a range of specialists to help meet the special needs of all students
- Ability to listen and to communicate effectively with students, families, school staff, and communities
- Knowledge of North Carolina Standard Course of Study
- Ability to collect and analyze student data to plan and evaluate the effectiveness of service delivery
