Requisition Id15445 Overview: We are seeking a Mechanical Designer III to produce high quality engineering design packages for components and subsystems. The position resides in the Design Services group within the Second Target Station (STS) Project atOak Ridge National Laboratory(ORNL). As part of the Design Services group, you will have the opportunity to engage in the design of complex mechanical systems, many of which are first-of-a-kind or one-of-a-kind. In this role, you will work alongside other designers, engineers, and scientists to fully develop these components and subsystem designs. You will be responsible for developing component and subsystem designs and detailed fabrication drawings. You will support the engineer responsible in preparing technical specifications and other procurement-related documents. The Second Target Station (STS) is a >$2Billion Department of Energy project to be constructed at the ORNL Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) over the next decade. The STS will provide wholly new capabilities for the study of a broad range of materials with neutron scattering and support thousands of users from the physical, materials, and applied sciences as well as industry. The science capabilities provided by the STS will complement those of the two existing neutron scattering user facilities at ORNL, the First Target Station (FTS) of the SNS and the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR). The STS will deliver the highest peak brightness cold neutrons in the world, which together with advances linear accelerator technology, high powered targets, moderators, and neutron instrumentation, will ensure U.S. leadership in neutron scattering for decades to come. Please seehttp://neutrons.ornl.gov/stsfor more information. Major Duties/Responsibilities: Take complex engineering designs from conception through manufacture and build. Successfully communicate and collaborate with engineers and scientists throughout the design process. Create engineering models and drawings using Creo/Windchill.
