Summary of Job Purpose

Lift Operations is responsible for the safe loading and unloading of our customers on chairlifts, conveyor, and surface lifts. This is an outdoor and physically demanding position. Daily duties are numerous and many are listed below. Lift Operations is a team-oriented department focused on providing our guests with excellent customer service.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Lift Operations Managers, Supervisors, and Lead Operators, the Lift Operator shall be required to:

Duties:

Follow ANSI-2022 B77.1 section 4.3.2.3.3, which describes the duties of an attendant. Assist with the daily operation of your assigned aerial lift or surface lift, to include in part:

Inspection and checking of the lift prior to operation. Maintenance of the lift house, equipment, and surrounding area throughout your shift to ensure they remain in a neat and orderly manner. Assist the guests on and off the lift.

Continually remain vigilant and situationally aware of the needs of both the equipment and the customers/staff and react to those needs in a protective manner, while maintaining quality service. Maintain appropriate proximity to controls and keep a presence at the lift at all times while on duty. Maintain carriers, loading and unloading areas, platforms, and ramps, through use of various hand tools, shoveling snow (sometimes wet and heavy snow) to make it easier for passengers to load and unload with a high degree of care and efficiency. Demonstrate an on-going commitment to delivering excellent customer service. This involves interacting with customers in a courteous manner and being able to answer questions professionally. Provide timely and accurate information concerning weather conditions, grooming, slope conditions, and other related information intended to better the customer experience. Communicate problems to superiors, while showing initiative in handling routine and emergency situations. Communicate with other departments in courteous and professional manner. Maintain appropriate records as required situationally as set forth by company policy and procedures. Including accurate information regarding lunch and ski/ride breaks. Maintain the ticket gate/tablet for accuracy, while remaining professional and courteous. Support and promote company policies and procedures. Knowledge of resort area, terrain and facilities. Keep updated on current events at Dodge Ridge. Participate in rope rescue training exercises and assist in lift evacuations as directed. Comply with and enforce departmental safety rules and policies. Be knowledgeable of and promote, hill safety, risk awareness, and good housekeeping procedures. Be prepared for walking and working on uneven ground, deep powder, and icy and wet surfaces. Proper use/care of tools and equipment to maximize company profitability and productivity. Ensure that any information regarding lost (B.O.L.O.) or injured skier/snowboarder reported directly to you gets passed on to the appropriate personnel quickly. This type of situation takes precedence over all other duties. Actively and efficiently assist with maze control. Maintain orderly passenger traffic conditions within your jurisdiction. Knowledge and ability to assist in an unseated passenger rescue scenario by following the unseated passenger plan. Safe operation of snowblower; upon the completion of the snowblower training program. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age. Completion of the Lift Operations training program and understanding of the Dodge Ridge Customer Service Policy. Ability to consistently deliver excellent customer service. Ability to read and write legibly and to exercise good composition skills to complete records and report forms. Must present a well-groomed and professional public image. Maintain a courteous, pleasant demeanor in person and on the telephone. Must be able to maintain control and rational demeanor in emotionally charged situations involving guests and/or employees. Must be able to remain situationally aware while performing required duties.

Good physical condition as this position requires hiking, shoveling, and heavy and awkward lifting/carrying of 50 lbs., up to 100 lbs. with assistance. Must be able to tolerate heights. Have good manual and physical dexterity skills. Must be able to make quick decisions regarding safety. Ability to learn and retain the knowledge of the function of the equipment and standard procedures for its care and safe operation. Must be punctual, honest, trustworthy, and possess good judgement. Willingness to work during extreme weather conditions.

Work Schedules

Weather conditions and guest volume play a large role in the work schedules of Dodge Ridge employees.

When conditions are normal, you may be expected to work 40 up to 48 hours per week, including weekends and holidays. During busy periods, you may be asked to work six (6) days per week.

You must arrange for transportation to work so that you arrive at your designated workstation at the scheduled time. Keep in mind that you will often be required to travel on hilly, snow packed, and icy road surfaces.

Working Conditions

At any time during the ski season, Dodge Ridge employees are often required to perform their tasks in high winds, heavy snowfall, low visibility, rain, and extremely cold or warm temperatures.

Work is typically outside, working directly with resort guests and other resort staff members. It can be noisy, cold, wet, or humid. You may be expected to work in high places, and you will frequently work around moving objects. At times you may be inside a lift shack.
