Job Title: Lead Medical Technologist Profession: Medical Technologist Specialty: - Duration: Direct Hire Shift: Evening Hours per Shift: 12-hour shifts (3 shifts per week) Experience: Minimum of one year of related experience with high complexity testing License: Must have passed national certification exam as a laboratory scientist accredited by an approved agency Certifications: - Must-Have: Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or a related Biological/Chemical Science from an accredited college or university Description: Performs medical laboratory testing and supervisory duties designated by the supervisor. Receives and processes specimens, components, and/or requisitions. Receives, prioritizes, and processes specimens in a timely manner to meet or exceed turnaround time standards. Verifies specimen identification and labeling. Determines if the specimen is acceptable for analysis. Identifies discrepancies, resolves, and documents for quality assurance. Assists other employees in the department during times of high-volume testing. Determines if specimen collection is required and completes the necessary documentation. Performs and documents blood component processing according to established procedures. Provides appropriate platelet and plasma components as requested. Documents special component needs in transfusion service information systems. Reviews and confirms recipient and donor information at the time of blood component issue. Maintains adequate blood component inventory and uses it effectively. Organizes work for maximum efficiency while maintaining performance during stressful situations. Demonstrates knowledge of technical and instrumental procedures. Identifies absurd results and repeats tests as needed. Maintains a clean, uncluttered work area. Uses required personal protective equipment and physical barriers. Works independently with minimal supervision and manages time efficiently when tasks are completed. Reviews specimen logs for unreceived specimens. Performs patient and component testing according to established procedures. Uses information systems efficiently to record testing results and comments. Reports accurate test results.
