Job Title: Nuclear Medicine Technologist Profession: Tech Specialty: Nuclear Medicine Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 8hr Days Hours per Shift: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday Experience: One year of nuclear medicine experience strongly preferred License: Registered Technologist, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine - R.T. (N)(ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) Required Certifications: BLS (AHA) Required Must-Have: High School Diploma/GED Required Description: Provides diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures for both inpatients and outpatients through the administration of radiopharmaceuticals. Safely operates various types of imaging, counting, and computer equipment. Maintains accurate records of radioactive materials from receipt through administration and disposal. Acts as a clinical resource to personnel and ensures current standards of practice are upheld. Performs a variety of technical procedures in the application of radionuclides for the diagnosis, therapy, and treatment of disease. Operates gamma camera/computer imaging systems, including planar and SPECT, producing quality diagnostic images for interpretation. Practices all rules and regulations pertaining to radiation safety, reducing exposure to as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA). Processes radiopharmaceuticals from receipt and preparation through administration and disposal in a safe manner. Prepares patients for exams and provides information and instruction to patients and/or families regarding procedures. Responds to patients' physical and emotional needs and assists during exams. Positions patients appropriately and observes them during procedures, documenting any unusual occurrences. Facilitates smooth patient flow, scheduling, and optimal use of equipment and resources. Communicates in writing and verbally with physicians, imaging personnel, students, and staff to ensure continuity of care. Assists with patient transport as needed and performs IV starts and contrast administration as required. May perform technologist duties of other registered modalities as assigned. Provides on-call coverage outside of standard scheduled hours. Correctly inputs charges and required data for procedures and for supplies utilized during exams. Floating may be required to locations within sixty (60) miles of the original assignment. Float assignments may include duties outside of original job requirements in accordance with policy.
