IT Technician II Job Description
Under the direction of the Director of Technology, the IT Technician II performs a variety of duties related to organization-wide operation of computer systems; installs and maintains computer applications, and provides computer hardware support; assists as needed in daily operations of the Technology Department; and performs related work as required; keeps organization staff informed and up-to-date on software and hardware changes, developments, etc.; assists the Director of Technology and the Technology department in the management of information systems security; and orients users to new systems and procedures.
Examples of Duties
Provides technical support for desktop and mobile platforms, including Windows, macOS, iOS, and Chrome OS. Configures workstations and devices for basic network connectivity. Troubleshoots and resolves issues related to hardware, software, network, mobile devices, audiovisual equipment, and peripherals. Repairs and replaces computer hardware components across various systems. Performs routine preventative maintenance to ensure optimal system performance and reliability. Serves as a technical resource to administrators, teachers, and staff, offering guidance and recommendations as needed. Performs imaging, setup, and deployment of computer systems. Conducts advanced troubleshooting of network connectivity and configuration issues. Maintains an accurate inventory of all IT equipment and peripherals. Assists with user account administration within enterprise-wide information systems. Provides general maintenance, support, and configuration for VoIP systems. Supports the maintenance and security of databases containing sensitive and confidential information. Coordinates with vendors for software/hardware installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Maintains detailed records of support requests and resolutions using the organization's ticketing system. Transports and deploys IT equipment between organization facilities as required. Evaluates, tests, and deploys software and hardware upgrades to end-user devices. Assists in the monitoring of servers, storage systems, applications, and network services using appropriate tools. Configures and maintains Active Directory, including Group Policy Objects, print services, account and group management, and access control. Applies updates and security patches for operating systems, applications, and security software. Assists in the creation and testing of system images for both server and desktop environments. Stays current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in IT support. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Technology in support of both current and future technology initiatives. Knowledge of:
Computer operating systems (Windows, macOS, Chrome OS) Modern practices, terminology, and core principles in information technology. Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) principles, operations, and continuity planning. Inventory and documentation practices Significant experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, Office 365, Google Workspace, and Okta SSO Cisco Webex Control Hub, Cisco Umbrella, and Cisco IOS CLI Strong understanding of Nutanix Prism and Microsoft Hyper-V Lightspeed Systems Filtering Jamf MDM SchoolMessenger, Landing Zone implementation, Naviance, and PowerSchool/CALPADS knowledge desirable, or ability to learn Demonstrated Ability To:
Perform advanced installation, configuration, and maintenance of computer hardware, software, mobile devices, and peripheral equipment. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve hardware, software, and peripheral-related issues efficiently. Effectively manage time to meet established schedules and deadlines. Prioritize tasks and coordinate workload in a structured and efficient manner. Organize and deliver training sessions to support users and enhance technical understanding. Maintain accurate inventories of computers, networking equipment, and technology assets. Work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative and reliability. Communicate clearly and professionally in both verbal and written forms. Build and maintain cooperative, productive working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders. Maintain regular and reliable attendance, including availability for nights, weekends, and on-call emergency support as needed. Plan, organize, and execute tasks effectively to support operational and project goals. Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred; an equivalent combination of education and professional experience will also be considered Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in enterprise-level hardware and software support, systems administration, or network infrastructure within a complex corporate environment Licenses & Certifications
Must possess a valid California Driver's License and maintain proof of current insurance Professional certifications strongly preferred, such as:
- CompTIA A+, Network+, or Security+ - Apple Certified Support Professional (ACSP) - Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) or Microsoft 365 Certified - Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or higher
ITIL Foundation or similar IT service management certification
