Dental Department Policy Development

Develops and writes the policy and procedures and standing operating basis for the Dental Department in alignment with WRFCHC guidelines. Participates in organizational meetings to develop new, modify existing, and evaluate medical procedures relative to patient care with the objective of constantly improving and increasing the degree of patient care given to clients. Maintains scheduling and timesheets of Dental staff and sets policy and standards for the department. Oversees the daily workflow of the Dental department. Completes performance evaluations and corrective action plans (when necessary) for those supervised. Handles disciplinary action for the Dental staff in accordance with WRFCHC policy. Makes appropriate referrals to other specialists or services as needed. Works to ensure that documentation requirements are met to maximize billing and provide best clinical practice. Reviews monthly billing totals and finds opportunities to help increase collections. Maintains a staff of sufficient numbers to effectively provide quality care for patients of all ages. Trains new personnel. Provides opportunity for development and professional growth of staff. Other duties as assigned, to maintain and enhance the operation of the department. Makes clinical and radiographic examinations of the oral hard and soft tissues and a diagnosis of pathological or irregular conditions of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Performs endodontic, prosthodontic, periodontic, operative, preventative, and restorative dentistry within the scope of practice and ability. Performs tooth extractions and refers as needed to the oral surgeon. Performs root canal therapy within scope of practice. Treats scheduled and emergent patients as needed. Ensures accurate input of patient demographics into Dentrix Database. Informs patients about good dental health practices. To maintain a sterile/disinfected environment in the delivery of oral care.
