www.Crothall.com . Job Summary Third Grade Boiler Operator Job Description: Ability to do the work of a Boiler & Chiller Plant Operator without more than normal supervision. Must have the ability to perform some tasks including operating and monitoring of high-pressure Boiler Plants and auxiliary equipment. Ability to recognize and detect abnormal high pressure boiler plant and steam system operating conditions and take immediate actions to eliminate emergency situations and restore normal operating conditions; perform constant meter readings and record findings for fuel oil supply and steam production. Work under the supervision of a Plant Director or Chief-level employee who reviews work for completion. Healthcare experience strongly preferred. Qualifications/Experience: •
Experience with the starting, operating, adjusting, and stopping of high-pressure steam boilers fueled by natural gas and fuel oil •
Operated and controlled auxiliary equipment requiring continuous attention to monitor efficiency and control formation of pollutants in accordance with local, state, and federal pollution control requirements. •
Operated, controlled, and maintained a variety of auxiliary equipment such as centrifugal pumps, heat exchangers, fans, deaerators, flash tanks, condensate receivers, water softeners, steam traps, steam PRV’s, OSY valves, VFD’s. •
Maintained constant observation and record keeping of flow meters, charts, production/supply meters etc., to determine boiler plant status, whether it is meeting or exceeding demands, rate of fuel consumption, etc. •
Performed various operational repairs and preventive maintenance on boilers, cleaned burners, oils and greases moving parts, packs valves and pumps, cleans water/oil strainers •
Performed other routine operational maintenance •
Located and repaired limited electrical problems in burner controls, safety devices and other equipment. Replace flame scanners. •
Collected water samples and tested feed water, boiler water and condensate using standard chemical tests; determined appropriate treatment to control corrosion and chemical concentrations; removed impurities and entrapped gases; and stabilized fluctuating water conditions. Adjust blowdown methods and chemical feed pumps as necessary An applicant for a Class 3 - Steam and Hot Water Heating Boiler Engineer shall comply with all DC regulations related to the operation and maintenance of boilers.
