The ideal candidate will be responsible for administering radiation treatments to patients as prescribed by physicians. The therapist will ensure the highest standards of care and safety. This position involves close collaboration with medical professionals to follow patient's treatment plans. The department is accredited by a recognized professional organization. It includes three linear accelerators, a CT simulator, and a High Dose Rate brachytherapy unit. The area provides care to patients of all ages who will benefit from radiation therapy. Nearly half of all patients treated have breast, lung, or prostate cancer as their primary diagnosis. Most radiation therapy patients are ambulatory and self-supportive. In addition, we treat many inpatients who require intensive monitoring and services. Sedation and analgesia care is provided as needed. The scope of care includes external beam radiation therapy, low and high dose rate brachytherapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, and total body irradiation. Typical physical demands include standing, walking, seeing, hearing, and speaking. The role involves lifting usual weight of 5 pounds up to 25 pounds and pushing/pulling weight up to 10 pounds. Reaching above shoulder level and performing repetitive arm/hand motions are also essential. Carrying a usual weight of 5 pounds is continuous and frequent stooping/bending may be required. This position operates linear accelerators, simulators, computers, calculators, and blood irradiators. The working conditions are fast-paced with exposure to radiation, body fluids, communicable diseases, and mechanical/electrical units.
