The Hardware Engineer I is responsible for providing electrical hardware input to new or existing product development projects. The engineer will be involved in the design, development, and troubleshooting of circuitry and PCBA, as well as system testing both in the lab and on real products.

Responsibilities

  • Provide product development support, specific to controls in the Industrial, Commercial, Residential and/or Retail generator or Power Tool product area, supporting product development plans (schedule, product cost, meeting design inputs), interfacing with internal company personnel, and providing technical support for assigned projects.
  • Specify components and circuit designs, test and integrate individual circuits to produce final designs; evaluate the design's effectiveness in meeting requirements, cost (including cost/benefit analysis), reliability (risk analysis), and safety.
  • Assist in creating, designing and developing test specifications for new systems and system components.
  • Conduct and evaluate test specifications including testing hardware and interfacing firmware.
  • Participate in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Test Activities (DTA).
  • Collaborate with internal manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers and product specialists to optimize basic designs for manufacturability.
  • Utilize simulation tools.
  • Create PC-based testing tools.
  • Help troubleshoot design.
  • Participate in design reviews.

Other duties

  • Supporting product development plans (schedule, product cost, meeting design inputs).
  • Occasional travel to other Generac facilities and customer site visits as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or directly related Engineering degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in analog and digital circuit design
  • Experience in embedded designs
  • Experience in new product design and development
