Overview
Senior Medical Secretary – Location: Upper East Side. Org Unit: Administration. Work Days: Monday-Friday. Weekly Hours: 35.00. Exemption Status: Non-Exempt. Salary Range: $25.52 - $28.79.
Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for front-end revenue cycle processes, including check-in/check-out of patients and collection/reconciliation of time-of-service payments, as applicable. May discuss patient responsibility for payments.
- Ensure patients provide pre-visit documentation, pre-certifications or authorizations for medical services as needed, and/or a referral if required.
- Schedule, confirm, reschedule and cancel appointments for new and existing patients using the scheduling application. Monitor schedules for wait lists, reschedules and cancellations.
- Assist with coordination of follow-up care including scheduling laboratory/diagnostic tests and prescription requests.
- Maintain physicians\' administrative (research and academic) and clinical/surgical schedules.
- Prepare charges and payments for submission to the billing office.
- Identify delinquent accounts for collection activities and review status with the physician to determine next steps.
- Assist with physicians\' research activities, if applicable.
- Assist in the preparation of lectures and presentations.
- If applicable, prepare travel arrangements for business purposes and prepare travel schedule and presentation documents for conferences and lectures.
- Update physicians\' CV and credentialing documentation as needed.
- Initiate and prepare written correspondence as needed and based on functional needs.
- May be responsible for chaperone duties during patient exams as needed.
Education
- High School Diploma
Experience
Approximately 2 or more years of prior related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Previous experience using computerized appointment scheduling systems (EPIC preferred) and/or electronic Medical Record (eMR) system (ideally EPIC-Care).
- Knowledge of CPT, ICD-9, and ICD-10 coding.
- Working knowledge of third party payor reimbursement – Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care and commercial insurance.
