Position Summary
A Planner is pivotal in optimizing production efficiency by crafting and adjusting schedules, aligning with demand and resource availability. Their responsibilities span material planning, ensuring timely procurement, and managing inventory levels. Proficiency in capacity planning and identifying constraints is required to enable agile manufacturing processes that meet organizational goals. Strong communication and a commitment to continuous improvement are essential.
Reporting
The Production Planner reports to the Production Planning Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Develop production schedules based on demand forecasts, customer orders, and inventory levels.
- Coordinate with departments to align production plans with business goals.
- Determine raw materials, components, and resources required for production.
- Work with procurement and supply chain teams to ensure timely material availability.
- Create detailed production schedules considering capacity, lead times, and resource constraints.
- Adjust schedules in response to changes in demand or resource availability.
- Monitor and control inventory to avoid shortages or excess stock.
- Implement inventory control strategies to optimize working capital and minimize carrying costs.
- Liaise with production, procurement, and logistics to communicate plans and address changes.
- Keep stakeholders informed about production progresses and potential disruptions.
- Prioritize production orders based on customer requirements and deadlines.
- Make decisions about sequencing and priority of manufacturing tasks.
- Assess production capacity and identify constraints; collaborate to optimize resource usage.
- Analyze production data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities.
- Generate regular reports on production performance and inventory levels; maintain accurate records.
- Identify and implement process improvements within the planning function.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve production delays or material shortages and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain documentation of production plans, schedules, and related records in compliance with company policies.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality control, and logistics to ensure coordinated operations.
Qualifications
- Fluent in English (oral and written); bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong attention to detail; able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and motivate team members.
- Excellent leadership skills.
- High School Diploma; computer literate with Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
