Overview

The Plant Operations Manager or Production Manager is responsible for overseeing daily manufacturing operations in a plastics production facility. This role ensures that production goals are met safely, efficiently, and in compliance with quality standards. The Production Manager will lead production teams, optimize processes, and collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and quality departments to achieve operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and develop production teams across multiple shifts.
  • Plan, schedule, and manage production activities to meet customer demand, on-time delivery, and cost targets.
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards, environmental regulations, and company policies.
  • Monitor production performance, including output, scrap rates, downtime, and efficiency metrics; implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives (Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, etc.) to increase productivity and reduce waste.
  • Collaborate with maintenance to minimize equipment downtime and improve reliability.
  • Partner with quality assurance to maintain product specifications and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage labor, material, and overhead costs in alignment with budget targets.
  • Train and mentor supervisors, team leads, and operators to build a high-performance culture.
  • Prepare and present regular production reports to senior leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or related field (preferred); equivalent experience considered.
  • 5+ years of production or operations management experience, preferably in plastics manufacturing (extrusion, injection molding, thermoforming, or blow molding).
  • Strong leadership skills with proven ability to manage and motivate teams.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing best practices, Lean/CI methodologies, and safety systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
