Responsibilities

  • Lay out, fabricate, assemble, install, and maintain piping and piping systems and supports for industrial piping systems.
  • Work with carbon steel, stainless steel, chrome, and PVC systems and direct/train pipefitter helpers.
  • Read and interpret isometric drawings, blueprints, hangers and support drawings, and P&ID/GA/Ortho ISO drawings to erect and fabricate piping systems.
  • Perform flange make-up (torque), socket weld, butt weld, and threaded pipe fabrication from orthographies and isometrics.
  • Prepare material take-offs and pipe-takeoffs for buttweld, socket weld, and threaded pipe; perform simple rigging operations.
  • Install and set pipe hangers, supports, anchors, and guides; install high pressure and high heat piping systems; install steam traps.
  • Set up and operate oxy‑acetylene torches, threading machines, and power tools; identify and use rigging equipment and cutting/welding gases safely.
  • Fabricate pipe hanger systems, supports, anchors, and guides; install reinforced concrete pipe and cast iron/mechanical joint piping as required.
  • Read and interpret pipe and hanger drawings; give crane and heavy equipment hand signals.
  • Perform basic craft math and read pipe by size, type, wall thickness, and service type; identify valves, fittings, gaskets, and materials by size and material.
  • Identify and sort nuts, bolts, screws, and threaded fittings; identify PVC pipe and fittings and pipe fittings by size, type, material, and service type.
  • Use isometrics to fabricate for socket weld, butt weld, and threaded pipe; fabricate piping and fiberglass where required.
  • Install and fabricate pipe hangers, supports, anchors, and guides; read and interpret pipe and hanger drawings.
  • Perform advanced craft math and basic math; transfer benchmarks and layout elevations as needed.
  • Read, write, and communicate in English to perform job functions; some language skills may be preferred for business needs.

Essential Qualifications

  • Three (3) years minimum field experience in the trade.
  • Ability to perform material take-offs, figure offsets, take-offs of fittings, and pipe rigging.
  • Ability to work with others to achieve job goals.
  • Read, write and communicate using the English language sufficient to perform job functions; other language skills may be preferred where there is a business need.

Physical Requirements

  • Stand or walk for long periods; use arms and hands to reach and manipulate objects.
  • Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds; occasionally over 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Climb ladders, scaffolds; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; see well; eye-hand coordination; good physical fitness; good balance; work at great heights.

Tools and Equipment

  • Steel-toed work boots; pipefitter blue book; torpedo level; 25' steel measuring tape; 12" adjustable wrench
  • Leather gloves; screwdrivers; toolbox with lock; hole alignment pins; channel lock pliers; C-clamps
  • Ballpeen hammers; squares; plumb bob; cold chisels; pipe wrenches; line-up tools
  • Welding and cutting tools as required

Environment and Safety

Construction work is physically demanding and may involve lifting heavy objects, working at heights, climbing, and exposure to weather, chemicals, fumes, asbestos, loud noise, and dangerous machinery. Safety clothing and devices are required (gloves, hardhats, protective gear). Some work may occur in underground or confined spaces; follow all safety procedures.


Compensation and Notice

Salary: $24 - $34 per hour
