ClearanceJobs is currently partnering with our customer, a technology company that crafts, deploys and operates innovative satellite communications products and services, to assist in hiring a Hardware Design Engineer on a full time, permanent basis. This position must be performed onsite in Carlsbad, CA. Due to government contract requirements United States Citizenship and an active Secret security clearance is required.
Summary: Help design, document, implement, prototype, and test groundbreaking high-speed, digital circuit boards for encrypted communications systems including Spaceborne and Ground-based Encryptors and embedded cryptographic devices. You will interface and collaborate with system, programmable logic, software, and test engineers as new capabilities are developed and transitioned into service. In addition, you will provide support to production and product support to help support operational networks when support is required from development.
Responsibilities:
Designing, prototyping, and testing high speed (up to 10Gbps) digital circuit boards to include microprocessor, FPGA, memory, networking, optical, and power supply components
Design for manufacture, assembly, and test
Modeling and simulation, schematic, CAD, and signal propagation software tools using Mentor Graphic DxDesigner, Expedition/Planner, and Hyperlynx
Work with system, hardware, firmware, software, and test teams, technology suppliers and subcontractors
Ability to prioritize tasks, meet schedule and see a program to completion.
PWB design and layout, which include concepts for HS Layout
Trade study and analysis
Make or buy analysis
Required:
8+ years of hardware development and a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
United States Citizenship and active Secret clearance.
Foundational knowledge of analog and digital logic and timing considerations
Proficient with test equipment – lab bench power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, eye pattern analyzers, and traffic generators
Must be able to prioritize, be detail oriented, and have history of managing time well to accomplish multiple tasks in parallel
Strong organizational skills and ability to work with system, hardware, firmware, software, and test teams.
Knowledge of encryption and information assurance technologies
Knowledge of network communication concepts
Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to work with a temporally and geographically diverse team
Ability to work independently, take initiative, take ownership of tasks and results
Ability to travel up to 10% (travel is unlikely)
Must be able to work 100% on-site in Carlsbad, CA
Ability to detail and report on technical solutions/findings
Good working knowledge of MS Office products for documentation creation and modification
Familiarity with standard test equipment (i.e., oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzer, power supplies, etc.)
Familiarity with production-related processes and common failure modes
Strong interest in acquiring new skills
Desire to be part of a multidisciplinary team to evaluate and troubleshoot production-related issues
Master's Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering
