Overview
JELD-WEN is currently seeking a Production Manager to join our growing team.
Under the general supervision of the Plant Manager, the Production Manager coordinates manufacturing operations through a team of functional Managers that oversee and implement all production and distribution operations and shop activities in JELD-WEN’s Door Systems facility in Kissimmee Florida. This position provides leadership and direction for the Production and Warehouse departments and fosters cooperative relationships with all internal departments and external customers and suppliers.
Responsibilities
- Ensures process quality, root cause analysis and implementation of actions for quality issues, and coordinates operational issues with other departments and managers, including Continuous Improvement (CI) Managers and teams.
- Establishes and improves procedures and work instructions for production processes, and coordinates with product line managers, quality managers, and CI Managers and teams utilizing SQDCI, OTD, and TPS methodologies.
- Retrieves and establishes updated production and quality control standards in their assigned areas of operations to effectively manage scheduling and timing of production, in coordination with upper management.
- Ensures accurate optimization of techniques/methods to maximize usage of inventory and plant supplies for production operations, including plans for current and future production requirements from raw materials to finished product.
- Ensures overall coordination of work assignments to product line schedules to meet customer needs, including ensuring smoothly coordinated shift changes and properly documented personnel assignments; supports production processes through cross training of personnel.
- Proactively and regularly develops and manages team members’ performance and capabilities with emphasis on CI’s, cycle time, cost and product quality.
- Ensures that machinery and equipment are maintained and calibrated to prevent unplanned downtime, cost or quality issues.
- Establishes and measures long-term goals for production teams to ensure consistency with JELD-WEN goals and objectives; implements these goals and monitors progress.
- Assists the Plant Manager in establishing and monitoring overall plant performance for production and quality standards.
- Assists in maintaining existing plant facilities and equipment, and makes recommendations and adjustments to plant facilities and equipment to the Maintenance Manager, Plant, Production and Warehouse Managers when necessary.
- Provides leadership and training to Managers and Supervisors to accomplish plant production goals and objectives.
- Assists Managers and Supervisors in implementing and maintaining preventative maintenance programs, maximizing equipment use.
- Manages and works with the Managers and Supervisors in the implementation of safety awareness programs, communicates safety issues, corrects safety-related problems, and assists in investigations into safety-related issues.
- Mentors Managers and Supervisors and fosters a learning and growth environment.
- Assists in performance reviews of Managers and Supervisors and assists in corrective actions as needed.
- Performs other duties as directed by the Plant Manager or other appropriate supervisory personnel.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, technical aptitude, problem solving and managerial skills.
- Strong team skills, including the ability to coach and develop work teams and provide appropriate training.
- The ability to motivate/empower others and resolve conflict.
- Knowledge of door and window production machines and tools.
- Must be flexible and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Travel is primarily local during the business day and may occasionally include travel to seminars and training.
- Bachelor\'s or Associate Degree in a related field and three to five years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the window and door industry; or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- At least ten years of progressively responsible work experience in the window and door industry, including two to four years as a Manager.
- Knowledge of raw materials and experience in production and manufacturing processes, preferably in the door and window industry, including Continuous Improvement, SQDCI, TPS, OTD, and related activities and methodologies.
