Overview

Carbide Industries, an Opta Group Company, is seeking a Production Manager for our chemical manufacturing plant in Louisville, KY. Our Louisville facility operates the only submerged Electrical Arc Furnace for the manufacture of Calcium Carbide in the US and Canada, providing the chemical energy needed to drive industrial innovation in steelmaking, foundry operations, acetylene production and chemical intermediates.

As a Production Manager, you will oversee all aspects of plant production operations to ensure efficient processes, adherence to quality standards, and a safe working environment. You will lead a team of employees and collaborate with various departments to optimize processes (6S), achieve production targets, maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, and maintain safety standards. Your role will be critical in driving productivity, profitability, and continuous improvement within the plant.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the overall production operations of the manufacturing plant
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize production efficiency and reduce costs
  • Lead, develop and motivate a team of managers, supervisors, and production workers
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Manage the plant\'s production budget, control expenses and respond with quarterly variances
  • Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying and implementing lean manufacturing
  • Coordinate with procurement and supply chain teams
  • Manage quality assurance group
  • Assist in compliance with environmental regulations and permits
  • Foster a positive environment, promoting teamwork, engagement, and development opportunities
  • Communicate effectively with senior management, providing regular reports on plant performance
  • Complete thorough investigations
  • Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, engineering preferred
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in Operations leadership
  • Experience in continuous improvement programs, such as lean manufacturing and 6S
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, safety regulations, and quality standards
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and compliance standards
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and develop subordinates
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Proficiency in implementing process optimization and cost reduction initiatives
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven track record of achieving production targets, improving efficiency, and driving results
  • Sound understanding of budgeting, financial analysis, and cost control measures
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and permits
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines
