Unit Specializes in: Our 20-bed surgical intensive care unit cares for patients with complex surgical diagnoses, including post-cardiac catheterization, open heart surgery, and other procedures requiring continuous monitoring or lifesaving interventions. Nurses are trained in caring for patients with balloon-pumps and Impella devices. RNs utilize hypothermic protocols in post-arrest patients. JOB DESCRIPTION

The Detroit Medical Center (DMC) Registered Nurse (RN) is part of the Patient Care Services Team, responsible for the nursing care provided by the team. The RN manages and delivers patient care activities for a group of patients and their families, using independent judgment, effective communication, and collaboration with team members, including ancillary and support staff. The RN’s role encompasses leadership, partnership, collaboration, teaching, and supervision.

The DMC RN:

  1. Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians and other healthcare providers.
  2. Delegates, assesses, provides, and evaluates patient care.
  3. Delegates patient care activities to team members.
  4. Monitors patient progress and prepares patients for discharge.
  5. Reports directly to senior unit management and participates in shared decision-making.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a school of nursing required.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Licensed to practice as an RN in Michigan required.
  • AHA BLS certification required.
