Required Qualifications
- One year’s recent experience as an Interventional Radiology RN
- Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations
- Current BLS (AHA/ ARC) certification
Preferred Qualifications
- PALS or ENPC certifications
- ACLS certification
- RCIS/RCES certification
- Other certifications or licenses may be required for this position
Summary
The Interventional Radiology (IR) Nurse provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing minimally invasive procedures in the IR lab. This role involves pre-procedure assessment, intra-procedure monitoring, sedation administration, and post-procedure recovery management. The IR Nurse works with radiologists, technologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure patient safety, comfort, and optimal outcomes.
Essential Work Functions
- Perform comprehensive pre-procedure assessments, including reviewing medical history and lab results
- Educate patients and families about IR procedures, sedation, and post-procedure care
- Administer and monitor moderate sedation, ensuring patient comfort and safety
- Monitor hemodynamic status, cardiac rhythms, and oxygenation levels during procedures
- Assist physicians during procedures, ensuring proper positioning, sterile technique, and instrument handling
- Recognize and respond to complications, escalating care when necessary
- Provide post-procedure monitoring and recovery care, including pain management and discharge education
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient assessments, medications, and procedural details
- Collaborate with IR technologists, radiologists, and other healthcare team members to deliver coordinated care
- Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
Required Essential Skills
- Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
- Ability to read/comprehend written instructions and follow verbal instructions; proficiency in PC skills
- Physical ability to remain stationary and move equipment (50-100 lbs); push, pull, and bend
- Interpersonal skills to work effectively with a variety of personnel
- Technical/motor skills to assist with procedures and equipment
- Mental requirements: ability to cope with frequent contact with the public, meet deadlines, and work under supervision or with minimal supervision as needed
- Sensory: visual acuity and effective communication abilities
