Preventative Maintenance Technician – 3rd Shift. Location: Lafayette, Indiana. Starting pay $29.40/hour + 6% shift premium. Position available on 3rd shift, 11:30pm-7:30am. Climate controlled work environment – most areas; clean/safe work environment. 40-hour work weeks with potential for overtime. This is a full-time position within Caterpillar’s Large Power Systems Division in Lafayette, IN.

Job Overview

Your work shapes the world at Caterpillar Inc. You will perform preventive maintenance and lubrication on machines and equipment in the machine shop, with a primary focus on the chip and coolant handling systems. You will also assist Machine Repairmen with various two-person tasks and autonomously perform minor mechanical repairs and process duties such as unplugging sluices, replacing way wipers, piping, and eliminating leaks in air, coolant, and hydraulic systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and lubrication on machines and equipment, focusing on the chip and coolant handling systems.
• Assist Machine Repairmen to accomplish various two-person tasks on equipment in the facility.
• Autonomously perform minor mechanical repairs and process duties, such as unplugging sluices, replacing way wipers, piping, and eliminating air, coolant, and hydraulic leaks.

Basic Qualifications

• Thorough understanding of basic welding and cutting skills, lubrication principles, and pipefitting.
• Experience with preventive maintenance in an industrial environment on CNC machine tools, conveyors, robots, and/or coolant systems.
• Basic electrical and print reading, plus knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, lubrication systems, and welding skills.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work at heights, climb ladders, work underground, and in confined spaces.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, medium to heavy-duty assembly and technical environment.
• Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, turning, climbing, and standing on concrete for 8+ hours.
• Must be able to lift 40 pounds.

Additional Information

• Location: Lafayette, IN
• Starting hourly pay range of $29.40-$37.40 plus 6% off-shift premium. Higher rates offered based on experience.
• Holders of this position: 3rd shift, 11:30pm-7:30am.
