Join Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world’s largest producers of zinc concentrate. The mine operates on land owned by the NANA Regional Corporation, an Alaska Native corporation. This partnership ensures that the local Iñupiat community benefits from the mine’s operations. Teck emphasizes safety leadership and a family-oriented work environment. We are targeting students pursuing a post-secondary degree in Mining or Mineral Resource Engineering or related field. The Mine Engineering Intern will work with the Principal Mine Engineer on mine assignments and projects, including drilling and blasting, short-range mine planning, and construction projects. The co-op collaborates with engineering and operations for daily, weekly, and monthly mine operation plans. You must be willing to commute or relocate to the surrounding area for the entire duration of the term if you are not located nearby. You must be enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution and remain enrolled for the duration of the co-op term. Proof of a valid work permit may be required, if applicable. Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures Participate in Teck health and safety programs to help ensure on-site safety and well-being Contribute to mine planning and design tasks, including pit and dump design, fleet operations, production scheduling, and optimization Assist with drilling, blasting, surveying, and provide technical services to mine production and other mine-site departments Supervise and perform analyses of operating areas; work with geotechnical evaluations of mine plans and procedures Assist with development, tracking, and reporting of mine permits Perform economic evaluations, efficiency analyses, and assist with capital expenditure documentation Build and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to improve operations Qualifications
Enrolled in a Bachelor of Science or equivalent in Mining/Mineral Resource Engineering is preferred; Geotechnical, Geological, or Civil Engineering backgrounds will also be considered Motivated self-starter with ability to manage multiple projects Comfortable in a dynamic industrial environment with engineering, technical, and operational personnel Willingness to work outdoors; able to operate vehicles in various weather conditions and terrains Experience in an open-pit mine (operational or engineering) is an asset Proficient in MS Office; strong MS Excel skills Experience with Minesight or similar mine planning software is an asset Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills About Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations
