in Silver Spring, MD. The candidate will support various new ship design and construction programs under the NOAA Fleet Recapitalization efforts. The primary focus is assisting program managers with day-to-day activities of ship acquisition. Salary range: $100,000 - $130,000. Some travel will be required, principally to vendors, shipyard locations, and/or various NOAA locations. Overseas travel is a possibility. In-office requirement: in Silver Spring, MD a minimum of 3 days a week.

Responsibilities

Perform preliminary ship design studies; perform engineering analyses on ship’s structure; conduct trade-off studies; perform equipment foundation calculations; and contract validation.

Conduct ship checks, specification development, drawing review/modification, acquisition document development, technical writing, and construction oversight. Other duties as assigned.

Travel as required, principally to vendors, shipyards, and NOAA locations; overseas travel is a possibility.

Qualifications

Eight+ years of Naval Architectural experience in design of ships.

BS in Naval Architecture/Marine or other engineering disciplines.

Ability to assess a vessel’s design to meet regulatory rules for stability and structural design.

Ability to assess validity of vendor’s equipment foundation designs.

Experience with AutoCAD, ShipConstructor, GHS, Rhino and other engineering related software.

Strong technical and specification review/writing experience.

Ability to review/modify engineering drawings.

Desirable: PE in Naval Architecture/Marine or other engineering disciplines.

Proficiency in FEMAP, MAESTRO, SHCP, and ANSYS.

Maritime program/acquisition management experience; experience with production techniques for steel construction ships; experience with cost estimating.
