The Role
Key Responsibilities: Lead the translation of our robotic designs from prototype to scalable production by applying deep expertise in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA). Develop and manage the supply chain for all mechanical components, identifying and qualifying world-class vendors and contract manufacturers. Design and implement assembly processes, fixtures, and jigs required to build our robots reliably and repeatably. Establish quality control metrics and procedures for incoming parts and final assemblies to ensure our hardware meets rigorous performance and reliability standards. Collaborate with the design engineering team to provide critical feedback that improves cost, reliability, and ease of manufacturing for future iterations.
About You
Basic Qualifications: MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role for a complex hardware product. Demonstrated expertise in DFM/DFA principles and a proven track record of influencing designs to improve manufacturability. Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, NX, Onshape). Hands-on experience with a variety of manufacturing processes, such as CNC machining, injection molding, casting, and sheet metal fabrication.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience taking a complex robotics or electromechanical product from early prototype to mass production. Experience setting up and managing relationships with overseas and domestic contract manufacturers (CMs). Deep expertise in statistical process control and quality management systems. Experience designing and building custom factory automation or assembly tooling.
