HDR is seeking an Environmental Project Manager with either engineering/design or planning and permitting experience to join our New York/New Jersey Environmental Science and Planning practice. The ideal candidate must be a seller/doer who is well-rounded, team-oriented individual with excellent communication skills and capable of coordinating and working on multiple activities related to water resource management, coastal engineering, renewable energy, resiliency and sustainable design, Federal water projects, and environmental permitting while leading multidisciplinary planning and design teams.
The ideal candidate has experience in watershed planning, regulatory frameworks including direct experience working with Federal and state agencies such as the Army Corps of Engineers, NOAA, NYSDEC and NJDEP and experience preparing and leading environmental desktop and field studies, assessments, and state and federal permit applications and approvals.
Individuals who have succeeded in this position are comfortable corresponding directly with clients, self-motivated and possess versatility, a willingness to fully engage in a variety of tasks, effective time management and excellent technical writing and visualization skills.
In the role of Environmental Project Manager, we'll count on you to:
Work as a member of our environmental sciences and planning section and Water Resources Management team.
Provide technical expertise at project level and assist with growing HDR's environmental program through advancing growth initiatives including development of client relationships and identification of opportunities for expansion of our environmental services.
Take responsibility for project management and staff management, as well as marketing, business development and client management and engage in discussions of staff career growth including professional trainings and certifications
Establish sequencing of environmental tasks/projects, from financial management of project through successful completion, utilizing our technology, standards and project delivery practices
Plan and direct environmental tasks/projects for our core Water Business Group market sectors including Federal water, water resource management, drinking water, water/wastewater, and other programs as identified.
Prepare, plan and analyze/review technical studies, NEPA/SEQRA documents and similar reports/documents as needed.
Accomplish work independently and through coordinating or supervising small to large technical and professional teams from local and regional offices.
Support regional and national projects in specific areas of technical expertise and be closely involved in public participation and multiple agency coordination.
Take responsibility for project management, including development and management of project budgets, schedules and quality of products, and management of subcontractors.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates who reside locally are preferred.
Experience with federal water programs, coastal, NEPA/SEQRA, and renewable energy permitting/planning work in NY/NJ.
Master's degree in related field
Certification as an engineer or planner
Previous experience with USACE and/or NOAA
Previous consulting experience.
Preferring certifications: PMP, PWS, CWB or other relevant certifications
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related field
7 years related experience
A minimum of 2 years project management experience
Must have the ability to interact with various design teams, have excellent organizational, project management and communication (both written and verbal) skills
