Parkway Service Center Responsibilities

Public Works Equipment Operator Participates in routine construction, repair, and routine maintenance tasks, repairs City streets and sidewalks. Inspects, cleans, and maintains vehicles and equipment. Calculates the amount of materials needed for tasks. Services water mains, taps, and valves; paints fire hydrants. Performs traffic control around work sites. Cuts trees and brush; remove brush, debris, and trash from streets, right-of-ways, and storm drains. Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential. Senior Public Works Equipment Operator Participates in routine construction, repair, and routine maintenance tasks; repairs City streets and sidewalks. Inspects, cleans, and maintains vehicles and equipment; completes pre-trip inspections sheets for vehicles. Sets up job sites; verifies work area is secured with the proper use of cones and barricades. Loads and unloads tractors. Calculates the amount of materials needed for tasks. Services water mains, taps, and valves; paints and flushes fire hydrants; checks manholes; raises meter boxes. Performs traffic control around work sites. Cuts trees and brush; remove brush, debris, and trash from streets, right-of-ways, and storm drains. May assist in training and leading the work activities of others. Minimum Qualifications — Public Works Equipment Operator

Knowledge of:

Operation and maintenance of equipment; routine construction, repair, and maintenance methods; basic safety standards and practices for the operation of tools and equipment. Skill in:

Communicating clearly both verbally and in writing; operating light equipment used in the construction, maintenance and repair of assigned functional operations. Education:

High school diploma or GED equivalent. Experience:

Two (2) years of experience in construction which included operation of light equipment. Licenses and Certifications:

Texas Class A commercial driver’s license prior to employment. Additional certifications may be required depending on area of assignment. Conditions of Employment:

Must pass a drug test, driver license check, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions requiring access into Police buildings) and social security number verification check. Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Must possess mobility to work in and around City buildings, streets, and facilities; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform light to medium physical work; to work in confined spaces and around machines; to operate tools and equipment; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. Positions may require bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching; ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds with proper equipment. Minimum Qualifications — Senior Public Works Equipment Operator

Knowledge of:

Advanced methods of equipment operation and maintenance; safety policies, procedures, and practices; work leadership techniques; OSHA regulations; proper setup of traffic control devices including cones and barricades. Skill in:

Operating and maintaining light and heavy equipment and power tools; reading and interpreting water and sewer maps; communicating clearly both verbally and in writing; leadership and training responsibilities as required. Education:

High school diploma or GED equivalent (preferred). Experience:

Two (2) years of construction or similar experience, which includes operation of heavy equipment. Licenses and Certifications:

Texas Class A commercial driver’s license prior to employment. Additional Water/Wastewater certifications as required. Conditions of Employment:

Must pass a drug test, driver license check, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions requiring access into Police buildings) and social security number verification check. Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Must possess mobility to work in and around City buildings, streets, and facilities; ability to operate a motor vehicle; ability to perform light to medium physical work; read printed materials and a computer screen; hear and speak to communicate; lift up to 75 pounds with proper equipment.
