Our client is seeking to fill the role of
Capital & Project Accounting Manager
for their
Portland, Oregon
office. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of capital accounting, including accurate recording, reporting, and compliance of capital expenditures and fixed assets. This leadership role manages the Capital Accounting Team, ensuring day-to-day operations, task review, and coaching while driving adherence to regulatory requirements. The position oversees accounting for $3.7 billion in plant assets and partners across multiple departments to ensure financial accuracy and operational alignment. Location:
Portland, OR – Hybrid (2–3 days onsite per week; fully remote not available) Salary:
$130K – $171K annually + 15% annual incentive opportunity Work-Life Balance:
Up to 23 vacation days, 80 hours of sick time, 10 paid holidays + 3 floating holidays. Key Responsibilities of Capital & Project Accounting Manager
Manage Capital, Lease, and Project Accounting functions, providing direct oversight for senior analysts. Lead month-end close processes, ensuring timely plant additions and retirements. Oversee lease accounting processes, including review of agreements and reporting. Analyze results in financial statements and participate in Finance Committee meetings. Approve reconciliations and Sarbanes-Oxley internal control procedures. Support internal and external audits related to plant and lease balances. Maintain capital asset policies and provide guidance across departments. Oversee construction overhead calculations and general ledger updates. Conduct financial analyses and prepare ad hoc reports. Research complex accounting issues, prepare memos, and recommend solutions. Partner with Technical Accounting on lease transactions. Collaborate with Finance, Project Management, IT, and Business Analytics teams on budgeting, cost tracking, and reporting. Support regulatory reporting, depreciation studies, and rate case filings. Provide leadership, training, and coaching to accounting team members. Drive process improvements and contribute expertise to system implementations. Provide budget updates and maintain industry knowledge of capital accounting best practices. Qualifications of Capital & Project Accounting Manager
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (CPA strongly preferred). At least 8 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, with 3+ years in leadership. Strong knowledge of plant and lease accounting processes, PowerPlan, and SAP. Experience with monthly general ledger processes and US GAAP. Familiarity with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) accounting regulations and state-level regulatory policies (preferred). Experience with depreciation studies and regulatory inquiries. Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and employee development skills. Excellent communication, documentation, and presentation abilities.
