Clinical Lab Scientist I - Special Chemistry Location: San Juan Capistrano, CA Work Schedule: Sunday - Thursday 3:00PM-11:30PM Department: Special Chemistry General Compensation and Benefits
$5,000 Sign On Bonus Available (For Externals Only) Pay Range: $37.41 - $63.61 / hour;
shift differential
of 10% for some or all hours on the second shift and 15% for some or all hours on the third shift. Details provided if an offer is extended. Salary offers are based on skills, training, experience, education, and certifications. Eligible candidates may receive an annual performance bonus. Independently performs moderate to highly complex clinical tests following required procedures and policies; tests newly introduced laboratory procedures requiring defined skills. Prepares and oversees reagents, media, stock solutions, standards and controls; evaluates new reagents/controls against standard criteria. Determines specimen acceptability for testing according to established criteria. Calculates and records results using manual or computerized procedures; ensures accurate entry of results. Monitors turnaround times and adheres to analytical schedules; reviews reports for accuracy and action as needed. Evaluates analyses prior to releasing patient reports; recognizes critical values and documents actions taken. Performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration of laboratory equipment; conducts instrument performance checks and quality control with appropriate frequency. Initiates corrective actions when test systems do not perform to criteria; records proficiency testing. Maintains reagent labeling and storage; ensures a safe and organized work area. Communicates effectively with staff, supervisors, suppliers, and customers; participates in staff and quality improvement meetings. Performs special projects or duties as delegated (e.g., technique evaluation, method comparison, cost analysis, reference range establishment, procedure revisions, productivity metrics). Follows all safety, environmental, and infection-control procedures; uses PPE as required. Offers training and supervision to unlicensed staff when needed and supports training programs. Maintains professional growth through continuing education aligned with California licensure requirements. Answers phones and handles messages as part of routine duties. Ability to lift and carry objects; ranges vary (1-50 pounds with assistance as needed). Repetitive tasks with frequent grasping, reaching, and fine manipulation. Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods; good eye-hand coordination. Color vision testing may be required for roles requiring color discrimination. Knowledge and Skills
