Responsibilities
Daily management and handling of assigned claims and legal matters within the company claims and litigation program.
Support efficiency in departmental operations related to all types of litigation, pending claims, and prospective claims/litigation.
Perform claim reviews with leadership for recommendations on claim progress and direction.
Participate in and manage, with leadership oversight, medical malpractice defense claims.
Participate in and manage, with leadership oversight, assigned general liability defense claims.
Participate in and manage, with leadership oversight, assigned company collection claims.
Direct administration of claims and litigation through direction and negotiation within defined authority parameters.
Attend and participate in mediations, resolution meetings, and trials on behalf of the organization and/or insured providers.
Coordinate with assigned counsel and litigation leadership for collaborative claim direction and for accurate reporting on pending claims and litigation.
Refer cases for authority under established guidelines with appropriate case summaries and documentation.
Review claim files for irregularities and trending to ensure appropriate litigation strategies.
Participate in claim calls with assigned counsel; organize meetings and communications for claim mitigation/resolution.
Understand claim programs, policies, and procedures related to reporting, investigation, financial analysis, trending, forecasting, and litigation management through resolution.
Support and advance the mission and vision of the Litigation Division, Legal Department, and the company.
Develop and maintain productive relationships with external parties such as defense and plaintiff counsel, insurers, and other stakeholders.
Assist with miscellaneous legal matters, including legal research and responding to inquiries as needed.
Perform in a manner that enhances department operations and promotes quality patient care.
Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent analytical, research, writing and interpersonal skills; strong negotiation skills; knowledge of medical and insurance practices.
Education:
Juris Doctorate from an Accredited Law Center.
Work Experience / Qualifications:
Legal/Insurance experience – 0-3 years required; 3-5 years preferred.
Familiarity with medical records/terminology.
Familiarity with insurance practice.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:
Law License.
