Overview
ADVANCED PRACTICE PROFESSIONALS – Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI) – Cardiology at Thomas Memorial Hospital. This role is for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant within WVU Medicine. Responsibilities
Manage comprehensive and individualized care for cardiology patients in inpatient and ambulatory settings. Complete daily rounds, consults, pre-procedure evaluations, and integrated assessments. Coordinate involvement of medical/surgical specialty teams to develop and review a comprehensive plan of care. Direct and participate in diagnostic/therapeutic procedures and peri-operative services; coordinate discharge planning and follow-up as applicable. Educate residents and medical/nursing students; teach and model professional practice for staff and students. Document plan of care, interventions, and evaluations in the medical record following hospital policies. Promote patient outcomes-based improvements and participate in interdisciplinary committee work as applicable. Collaborate with cardiology faculty and staff to ensure quality care and innovation in the delivery of cardiology services. Perform clinical duties in accordance with state law and licensing/certification requirements. Minimum Qualifications
For Nurse Practitioner
Graduate of a CCNE-accredited nursing program with a Master’s Degree in Nursing. National Certification by a recognized APRN Certification Center. Licensure, or eligibility, as an APRN in West Virginia; licensure as a Registered Nurse in WV. BLS certification; ACLS or other advanced life support training as required by the department. Experience
Acute care or cardiology experience preferred; eligible new graduates will be considered. Preferred Qualifications
ACNP preferred; FNPs will be considered. For Physician Assistant
Bachelor’s Degree in Medical/Surgical discipline as applicable. Graduate of an ARC-PA approved PA program. Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants. Licensed or eligible for WV Board of Medicine licensure. BLS certification; advanced life support as required by department. Education, Certification, and/or Licensure (PA)
Master’s level education as Medical/Surgical PA preferred. Core Duties and Responsibilities
Manage care for cardiology patients across inpatient and ambulatory settings; coordinate discharge planning and follow-up. Perform rounds, evaluations, test orders, and communication of results following guidelines. Document clearly in the medical record and collaborate with leadership and staff to improve patient outcomes. Provide education to nursing staff, students, patients and families; participate in community programs as appropriate. Engage in committee work and professional practice advancement; participate in clinical trials as appropriate. Ensure safety and use of equipment; apply evidence-based practice to patient care. Document hours, submit billing reports as applicable. Physical Requirements
The position may involve heavy workload, lifting and positioning of patients; reasonable accommodations may be made to enable performance of essential functions. Working Environment
Collaborative work with staff; irregular hours; exposure to biohazards and infectious diseases. Potential exposure to deceased patients; work around water or electrical equipment as part of clinical duties. Skills and Abilities
