Job Summary

The Medical Risk Management Attorney works under limited supervision to handle medical malpractice / risk management issues arising within an academic medical center. Medical malpractice or personal injury experience is required.

Responsibilities

Assist in monitoring medical malpractice caseload and address medical legal issues of faculty and administrators relating to the provision of healthcare. Work with faculty, staff, UT System attorneys, counsel of the Attorney General's Office, outside counsel, and in-house counsel of affiliated institutions. Occasional court or deposition appearances to monitor and evaluate case status and risk exposure. Research and prepare opinions regarding medical legal matters; facilitate review of care; respond to legal matters arising in a medical malpractice context. Serve on various committees and provide counsel on risk issues. Identify and coordinate risk reduction strategies. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: J.D. degree and license to practice law in Texas. Experience: 3 years as an attorney with medical malpractice or personal injury experience, including litigation, risk management or health law experience. Licenses and Certifications: License to practice law in Texas (upon hire).
