The Manager of Professional Practice is a registered professional nurse who provides leadership and management of responsibilities through the application of advanced competencies in communication, job knowledge, professionalism and business skills. The role partners with hospital leadership, medical staff and other departments to create a center of excellence for nursing professional practice and to meet the hospital\u2019s mission, vision and goals. The nurse leader champions the nursing professional practice model, shared governance, ongoing professional development and maintenance of competencies that support professional nursing practice. The Manager of Professional Practice serves as sponsor for performance improvement, inspires others to grow, and applies lean and evidence-based practice to ensure target outcomes are achieved. This leader fosters a culture of safety through professional development for leaders, staff and physicians and uses data and technology to inform decisions and mitigate risks. The role supports a safe work environment that enables the organization to meet licensure, regulatory and accreditation standards and collaborates with physicians, staff and other departments. Performs other duties as assigned. It is expected that all Nurse Leaders are licensed, knowledgeable and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and the American Nurses Association Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards. As a member of the patient services team, the individual upholds the voice of the patient and supports service excellence goals. Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions

Exemplary Practice and Outcomes

Hold self and staff to the highest professional standards and ethics, ensuring compliance with corporate standards. Serve as a role model for professional nursing practice and leadership advances the field through governance and scholarly activity. Provide program leadership and management for professional nurses and other health care team members, championing the evolution of Professional Practice in this clinical setting; oversee clinical nurse specialists and other roles that support nursing professional practice. Facilitate system and process improvements to reduce nursing errors and adverse patient outcomes by addressing identified risks. Improve clinical quality and safety by assessing compliance with regulatory and professional standards; assist with periodic review and revision of nursing and system policies based on changes. Resources and Support

Assess current organizational status relative to external accrediting organizations (e.g., ANCC Magnet Designation Criteria) to create action plans for improvement; oversee documentation and evidence for adherence to action plans and nursing professional practice initiatives. Interdisciplinary Teamwork and Collaboration

Communicate effectively to diverse audiences on nursing, health care and system issues; set standards and hold leaders and staff accountable for performance; promote positive team dynamics. Build partnerships with hospital leaders and medical staff; use reflective practice to monitor performance and coaching needs. Provide opportunities for professional growth, recruit and retain talented leaders and staff, and foster a culture of safety. Collaborate with other departments and hospitals to promote interdisciplinary teamwork and achieve Nursing excellence. Professional Development

Seek opportunities to advance knowledge and skills through formal education to enhance understanding of healthcare financing and diverse nursing workforce management. Represent the organization to the community and participate in committees/taskforces to advance skills and responsibility scope. Develop and maintain expertise to identify barriers, improve safety and quality, and provide education on system-based causes of medical errors and prevention strategies. Evidence Based Practice and Research

Identify areas for improvement and sponsor projects; ensure nursing division meets licensure, regulatory and accreditation standards. Use data and evidence to support clinical and operational decision making and maintain awareness of legal and ethical issues related to patient and staff data. Remain updated on current literature and trends to establish programs and best practices. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct. Required Minimum Education

Master of Nursing Bachelor of Nursing Other Master’s degree Required Minimum Licenses and Certifications

BLS - Basic Life Support BLS-I - Basic Life Support Instructor or RN (Single State) or RN-COMPACT Additional License(s) and Certification(s)

National certification in nursing specialty is preferred. Must have a current BLS card on day one of employment. Required Minimum Experience

Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in nursing management Minimum 5 years of experience as a Registered Nurse 2 to 4 years of progressive clinical, leadership and/or operational responsibility Experience in a complex healthcare environment with matrix operating structures Participation in a journey to excellence with national recognition (e.g., Magnet, Baldrige, Pathways to Excellence) or unit-based programs Required Minimum Skills

Demonstrated ability to lead change management with positive impact on quality and safety Excellent verbal and written communication, relationship-building, healthcare knowledge, and leadership skills including change management, systems thinking, coaching, and teamwork Continuous learner with understanding of healthcare financing, strategy and operations, and ability to use data and technology to support work processes Supports shared governance and evidence-based care focused on quality and safety Knowledge of risk management and regulatory/licensing requirements; ability to measure outcomes and advance industry standards Join us to do meaningful work and enjoy a rewarding life.
