Tactacam
Overview
Principal Electrical Engineer at
Tactacam . We are seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer with a multidisciplinary background to lead hardware architecture and design for connected consumer and IoT devices. This role requires deep experience across RF systems, wireless communications, SoC-based platforms, sensor integration, and electromechanical interfaces. You will architect complex mixed-signal systems, guide cross-functional development, and partner with global ODMs/JDMs to take products from concept to mass production. Base pay range
$150,000.00/yr - $190,000.00/yr Additional compensation
Annual Bonus Location
This role is based onsite in Billings, MT. For candidates relocating from outside the state, Tactacam offers a comprehensive relocation package to support a smooth transition. Responsibilities
Define and lead the electrical architecture of connected devices, integrating SoCs, wireless modules, sensors, and actuators into compact, power-efficient systems. RF & Wireless Design: design and validate RF subsystems including Wi-Fi, BLE, and Cellular (LTE-M/NB-IoT) connectivity, including antenna selection, tuning, and compliance testing. High-Performance PCB Design: oversee design and review of multilayer PCBs with mixed-signal, RF, high-speed digital, and power subsystems; ensure design for manufacturability (DFM), signal integrity (SI), and thermal performance. Sensor & I/O Integration: architect and validate integration of image sensors, PIR sensors, Fresnel lenses, IMUs, and analog/digital I/O; ensure proper signal conditioning, filtering, and power management. LED & Motor Control Systems: design and test efficient LED driver circuits and motor control subsystems for actuation and feedback. ODM/JDM Partner Engagement: lead technical communication with global ODM and JDM partners; review partner designs, guide board bring-up and testing, and ensure hardware quality and functional alignment. Compliance & Reliability: ensure designs meet EMC, RF, safety, and environmental standards (FCC, CE, UL, RoHS); support lab testing and iterative tuning to meet global regulatory requirements. Prototyping & Validation: lead hands-on bring-up and debug of new hardware using appropriate test equipment. Cross-Functional Leadership: collaborate with firmware, mechanical, product, and manufacturing teams; evaluate tradeoffs and drive system-level decisions across electrical, firmware, mechanical, thermal, and supply chain domains. Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field 10+ years of experience in hardware design for connected consumer or IoT products Expertise in RF and wireless communication, including antenna integration and wireless certifications Strong knowledge of SoC platforms, sensor integration, and mixed-signal design Proficiency in PCB design and review, with experience in Altium, OrCAD, or similar tools Hands-on experience with image sensors, PIR/Fresnel-based motion detection, LEDs, and motor control circuits Deep understanding of power systems, including battery management and power regulation Experience with regulatory compliance and product certification (FCC, CE, UL, etc.) Proven track record working with ODM/JDM partners, guiding designs from concept to mass production Preferred Qualifications
Experience with optics integration, lens selection, and IR motion detection optimization Familiarity with factory testing, NPI processes, and yield management Knowledge of low-power design techniques and energy harvesting for remote devices Experience with high-speed digital interfaces (e.g., MIPI, USB, SDIO, DDR) Exposure to cloud-connected architecture and wireless provisioning workflows Benefits
