Overview

Vice President, Structural Engineering — WSP in the U.S. (Boston, MA or New York, NY offices). WSP is seeking a Vice President, Structural Engineering to join our Property & Buildings team. The role provides high level technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase due diligence, investigation, remediation, improvement, and/or construction of building and infrastructure projects in the public and private sector. Responsibilities include research, design, concept development, planning, and construction of load-bearing structures or structural elements. The position emphasizes leadership, mentorship of engineers, and delivering high-quality, timely deliverables that meet design, safety, and code requirements.

Your Impact

Apply high-level structural engineering techniques to identify improvements across project phases including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction, and operation.

Perform professional structural engineering work and research/inspect proposed and existing site conditions to ensure conformance with applicable rules, standards, and permits.

Develop construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, safety and phasing plans, and layout updates requiring coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients.

Manage design, construction, rehabilitation, and remediation of building and infrastructure projects to ensure durability and structural soundness under environmental and human loads.

Incorporate advanced technologies, monitoring devices, materials, modeling techniques, and operating strategies to ensure safety and functionality of end-users and transportation systems.

Oversee cross-functional teams to execute project work on mid-level and/or multiple concurrent projects, including budgets, hours/expenses, task completion, quantities, permits, and compliance documentation.

Coordinate, review, and approve design plans, ensuring compliance with codes, ordinances, and regulations.

Prepare data visualizations and technical reports/presentations to communicate findings and recommendations related to structural and construction issues.

Analyze site investigation data and contribute to action plans for risk mitigation.

Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).

Interact professionally with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients; collaborate with engineers, professionals, and authorities on projects and business development opportunities.

Stay current with latest structural engineering techniques and practices; adhere to WSP Code of Conduct and policies.

Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Qualifications Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.

12+ years of relevant post-education experience in engineering discipline with prior structural or civil design experience.

Professional Engineer license required.

Proficient with structural engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build, and application to project work-related issues.

Knowledge and experience with building structural planning, design, and construction management; involvement in rehabilitation, new design, and construction projects.

Working knowledge of sustainability concepts and reducing hazardous substances/greenhouse gas.

Knowledge of structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.

Ability to perform technical computations and interpret plans and specifications; compare with regulations.

Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations on construction and design of buildings, facilities, or structures.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with engineering and non-engineering audiences.

Self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.

Ability to work independently and mentor junior team members; adherence to QA/QC.

Proficiency with technical writing, Microsoft Office, structural software (e.g., ETABS or RAM), BIM, and related tools.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to apply technical knowledge to data-driven conclusions.

Experience coordinating subcontractors and directing tasks safely and efficiently.

Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP safety policies; ability to travel as needed for projects.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Engineering (structural).

Structural Engineering (SE) license.

Compensation And Benefits WSP provides a comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision, disability, life, retirement). Salary range:

Expected Salary: $184,600 - $229,000 .
