Harold Washington College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, is seeking a candidate for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position teaching photography within the Department of Art and Architecture. This faculty member will teach photography courses within the Department of Art and Architecture while working to expand the photography program at Harold Washington College.
Candidate Interviews will begin the week of August 18, 2025, for a start date of January 5, 2026 .

The ideal candidate for this position should have demonstrated success and/or expertise in the following areas:
Working with industry standard and cutting-edge digital and lighting technology in contemporary commercial and studio photography, possibly including: drone photography, AI, digital tech, lighting tech and/or video Working in a commercial photography studio and/or on location with augmented lighting Photography business management, possibly including: location scouting and permits, releases, estimates and budgeting Critical and conceptual understanding historical and contemporary photography Teaching digital photography, commercial photography and/or studio lighting at the college level Teaching in an urban environment with diverse learners, especially within the community college space
Primary Responsibilities
Teach a 15 contact hour course load per semester in a variety of photography courses, with the majority of classes being in person/face-to-face. Maintain office hours open to students aligned with course load. Participate in campus committee work, within and/or outside the Department of Art and Architecture Work alongside current faculty to develop new courses, certificates and degrees in photography while working to strengthen the existing program and courses. Work alongside current faculty to maintain and build photography resources including but not limited to: clubs, internship opportunities, scholarship opportunities, equipment and facilities access. Mentor students to help them reach their academic, personal and career goals. Promote awareness and involvement in the college’s photography program both on and off campus. Promote an effective learning environment that fosters students’ intellectual curiosity and helps students to solve problems using discipline-specific thinking strategies. Employ various summative and formative assessments to ensure that classroom instruction leads to student learning and the attainment of the student learning outcomes. Foster a safe environment that respects the diversity of people and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student’s ability to learn.
Qualifications
