Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and grow a team of computer scientists, fostering a collaborative and innovative research environment. Provide technical guidance, review code and research directions, and support the team's professional development. Oversee project planning, resource allocation, and the successful delivery of research milestones. Design and implement advanced image analysis algorithms for digital pathology, using both classical machine learning and deep learning approaches. Develop novel computational strategies for analyzing and integrating large-scale proteomics and genomics datasets. Stay current with advances in AI, ML, computer vision, and bioinformatics, applying emerging techniques to advance project goals. Contribute to the generation of intellectual property and high-impact scientific publications. Collaborate with experimental biologists, pathologists, and clinicians to define research objectives and computational approaches. Translate complex computational findings into clear, actionable insights for both technical and non-technical audiences. Contribute to grant applications, scientific manuscripts, and research reports. Provide strategic leadership in developing scalable and reproducible computational tools and pipelines. Ensure adherence to best practices in software development, data versioning, and reproducibility. Help shape the long-term vision for the company's computational research initiatives. Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related quantitative field. A minimum of 5 to 7 years of post-degree experience applying computational methods to biological data. Industry experience in biotech, pharma, diagnostics, or a related commercial R&D setting is required. Proven leadership or mentoring experience in a technical research environment. Strong programming proficiency in Python and/or R, including experience with libraries such as pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, and Bioconductor/Biopython. Expertise with Git for version control and a commitment to reproducible research practices. Deep technical expertise in at least two of the following areas, with working familiarity in the third: Digital Pathology Image Analysis: Development of algorithms for image segmentation, feature extraction, and classification of histopathological images. Experience with deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow/Keras or PyTorch is essential, along with familiarity with models like CNNs and Vision Transformers (ViTs) and libraries such as OpenCV. Proteomics Data Analysis: Experience processing and analyzing mass spectrometry-based proteomics data, including protein identification, quantification, and differential expression analysis. Genomics Data Analysis: Proficiency in analyzing next-generation sequencing (NGS) data (e.g., WGS, WES, RNA-seq), using common bioinformatics tools such as GATK, Samtools, and DESeq2/edgeR. Solid understanding of statistical principles and machine learning algorithms. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. Preferred Qualifications: A proven track record of impactful research demonstrated through high-quality publications or patents. Familiarity with cloud computing environments (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and high-performance computing (HPC) clusters. Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker or Singularity. Experience with workflow management tools such as Snakemake or Nextflow. Knowledge of MLOps principles and practices, with exposure to tools like MLflow or Kubeflow. Experience with whole-slide image (WSI) analysis libraries, such as OpenSlide. What We Offer
Competitive Compensation: The estimated base salary for this role ranges from $155,000 to $225,000, commensurate with experience.
