WhidbeyHealth Job Summary: The Director of Materials Management is responsible for the strategic oversight and operational execution of the Materials Management Department. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director leads the planning, organization, and management of the department's functions, policies, procedures, and personnel. This role ensures timely and cost-effective acquisition, distribution, and inventory control of both clinical and non-clinical materials to support high-quality patient care and facility operations. Coupeville, WA — Onsite Full-time, Days, 8 hour Mon-Fri • FTE 1 Principal Functions
Lead and manage the Materials Management Department and provide leadership to materials management staff, including hiring, training, evaluation, and performance management. Attend and contribute to hospital leadership meetings to align operations with broader facility objectives. Lead workforce planning and professional development initiatives to address skills gaps and promote team growth. Responsibilities
Direct the facility’s integrated supply chain to ensure service levels and cost-effective inventory investment. Oversee par replenishment processes for all nursing and clinical departments. Manage central and decentralized store rooms, equipment inventory, and materials delivery services. Lead supplier contract negotiations to secure favorable terms and long-term relationships. Oversee par level management and point-of-use systems to ensure continuous supply availability. Maintain and improve internal controls for inventory tracking and cost optimization. Ensure day-to-day efficiency of the supply chain department, including receiving, distribution, and logistics functions. Implement continuous improvement activities focused on customer service excellence and process efficiency. Collaborate with corporate sourcing on acquisitions for capital projects, service lines, and strategic initiatives. Facilitate market-based purchasing initiatives and local implementation of corporate supply chain projects. Data-Driven Decision-Making
Utilize corporate analytics tools to inform decisions and track department KPIs. Analyze and interpret data to optimize supply chain operations and inform leadership of trends and opportunities. Manage departmental budgets, forecast expenditures, and track profit and loss for the supply chain function. Compliance & Quality
Ensure compliance with hospital, corporate, and regulatory policies, procedures, and standards. Manage vendor relations in accordance with organizational and ethical guidelines. Oversee quality assurance for delivered products and services. Ensure confidentiality, ethical behavior, and integrity across all supply chain activities. Job Knowledge, Education & Experience
Education : Bachelor’s degree required in Business Management, Finance, Accounting, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a healthcare-related field. Master’s degree preferred. Training And Experience : Minimum 10 years of experience in supply chain/materials management. At least 3–5 years of experience in a healthcare materials management leadership role. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Hospital experience is required, preferably with direct management responsibility. Extensive understanding of supply chain systems (including ERP, MRP, par level systems). Demonstrated skill in supplier negotiations and vendor relationship management. Strong knowledge of hospital operations, finance, and regulatory standards. Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills. Ability to manage multiple high-priority projects with a keen attention to detail. High degree of professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical conduct. Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and collaborate across departments. Certificates, Licenses & Registrations
